I think Nissan Leaf is electric car and is very expensive. If there is no duty on it still it will cost more than 3 Million.
Small lightweight cars with small engines are already very fuel efficient, so the huge added weight and expense of making them hybrid would be counterproductive and buyers wouldn't pay the large price premium for such vehicles.
The batteries packs add significant weight to the car, so a larger IC engine is need to provide acceptable performance given the added weight of the electric motor and battery pack. And even with 1.5L engines, the performance of most hybrids is pretty tepid.
