PAMA is an organization of auto manufacturers/assemblers to protect their interests and pressurize govt. Its Al-Haj's choice if they wish to join or not and also if others in PAMA accept them or not, but most probably the former.
Someone said that the stats can be interpreted as Toyota selling "junk" is doing better and will prevent Honda/Suzuki being "innovative". I don't think so. There is nothing wrong with introducing new stuff/technology but the company has to be careful about the local market demand. Some forumers demanding a certain feature on an online forum is one thing, but companies need to figure out what the general consumer wants.Pakistan is not a market where majority wants a powerful small car for driving pleasure. Mostly, they need large, practical and economical cars that will work well on our roads and are cheaper to maintain. Indus knows how to cash on this.
Honda is relying on a specific customer who can afford to run a 1.8L car and is willing to be different/exclusive. They think the Civic has created a segment of its own and doesn't need to compete with anyone else. To some extent, this worked as previous generation 1.8 Altis wasn't really exclusive nor had that wow factor. Too bad for Honda that firstly, their current Civic doesn't carry the grandeur looks that customers in this segment wants that was there in Reborn model, and secondly, the new Corolla Grande does have something to offer that will convince its customers its not just a GLI with a more powerful engine. Civic's sale are being hurt as a result of these two things.
There is nothing really wrong with WagonR except that its ugly and small. It has better interior, more features, more modern technology yet its a fail as compared to an old car. Why? Suzuki...if you're listening...introduce something the size of Cultus, with the modernness of Swift (shape with better curves, modern looking interior, etc.) but keep the engine at 1.0L. A car with the engine and taxes of a sedan but with length smaller than Cultus ain't going to be a massive hit. What were you thinking? Nor will people prefer a smaller uglier car to replace a cultus.
