Default Should I remove catalaytic converter from city?

There was a strange grinding noise comimg from my Honda city. When I took it to Honda North they said that its catalaytic converter is damaged and offered to replace it for Rs 52,000 plus labour. Someone else suggested that i search for second hand in Shoba for 8000 to 10,000. yet another one suggested to just remove it altogether. what should i do? If I remove it completely will it effect anything?

mine is 62k too, but i dont feel any major difference yet, yes i feel lil drop in mileage now a days, but that might be due to bad quality of fuel and many other factors,
some senior/very experienced member (xulfiqar bhai) told me keh it never get clogged that easy ! so i would recommend suspect other things ! check it physically by removing it ! examine it urself and other holding parts,
    !

which model of city is it?
i removed the cat converted from my 06 city as i drive on cng 99%

if u drive on petrol and remove the cat, u r damaging the atmosphere.but sadly nobody cares in pk.

p.s removing the cat will increase exhaust sound a bit.

    converts cats into dogs hehehe

nah, its a 'catalytic converter'. its a 'dholki' with fine platinum coated honeycomb structure inside. Its to catalyze the reaction of harmful CO and NOx gasses and convert them into harmless CO2 and NO2.

It becomes useless/ clogged if eg. leaded petrol is used in the vehicle or if the vehicle burns engine oil or even if the A/F mixture goes wrong and it gets carbonised.

the exhaust system is designed keeping that in mind - if you remove it the exhaust will sound extremely stupid and annoying. It does not like easily unless your petrol engine is misfiring and dumping raw fuel into it causing it to overheat and melt inside. And the fuel you are burning in Pakistan is not leaded.

There are some cleaning procedures that were used in older cars whose convertors took forever to light up and start working. But if its rattling inside then the honeycomb is broken and it is now trash.
