Red face Honda City 05 overhaul.

    Assalam-o-Alikum,

Dear All, I have a Honda City 05 i-dsi, that drinks out 0.5 liter oil on every 1000kms,with white smoke, it has been a year since it's behaving so, usually i filled it's oil and moved on. Got it checked from several mechanics, they all say it requires Rings and Head work. I also went to Honda Center on Peshawar Road (Rawalpindi). They say it would cost around 40k, while other mechanics say a little less.

I have read out forums on changing assembly of L13A, but it doesn't seems reliable to me, especially the changing engine number part.

1st question :"How much is this Honda Center people reliable on being overhauling an engine in terms of cost and quality?"
2nd question: " Any other mechanics that are good on Honda cars in Rwp/ISB area?"

    Regards.

the best (most reliable) wud be to get the entire engine replaced. head assembly change is also a gud option. if ur mechanic is expert n guides u well while buying the engine, u wont face any troubles. u have to decide about the engine number though. repair is the worst thing u can do. these engines have teflon coating inside them. once thats gone after the overhaul, ur engine wud sound and perform very bad.

wats the mileage btw? are u the first owner?

It would be the WORST idea on the earth to overhaul the engine. The idea with these engines is that either they live long enough or they die. There is nothing like "guzara hai" stuff. No mechanic can ever make your current power house even close to good.

Rather than spending 40k on overhaul, spend 35k on a L15a motor and enjoy the power coupled with economy.

Don't worry about the engine number, if you HAVE to change it, you are left with two choices: Change it on the registration or change it on the assembly itself.

If I were you, I would do everything to build an unbeatable daily runner. Another option for the swap can be the L13z1 motor. But the thing with L15 is its bolt on screw to screw.

I had similar situation few months back. I got the assembly replaced with L13A assembly with a total expense (Assembly+Labour+Other things which needed replacement) 30k+Old Engine.

Engine number on book can be changed easily from excise. no issue. Just get a slip from seller with Engine number written on it and goto excise.

i also cannot understand bro, what happened that resulted to wear out such a durable engine... according to local mechanics, it overheated, but in my experience, this never happened, it never loosened any radiator coolant or other etc.. Anyways, thanks for the suggestion guys, i have now changed up my mind, and i will change the assembly.

i agree! L12a2 is the exact code u shud be looking at. even l13a does just fine n wud be a little bit more powerful but im not sure if all the sensors n everything from l12 wud work well on l13. thats why, the original L12 is a safer bet.

unless you're its first owner, there is no way the mileage is close to 1 lakh kms. the previous owner must ve reversed the meter. an idsi engine just CANNOT emit smoke at just that much mileage. my own 2006 idsi has 247,000kms on it now n no smoke or any other issue watsoever!!

and yes, engine number wud have to be changed anyways...

as per my knowledge, changing engine number IS illegal. how cant it be? its tempering! the law required to get a reciept frm the guy u get the engine from, put the engine number on the receipt and submit it to the ETO office along with the book of the car so that they change the number on the book through legal ways. if ur car is checked by police n tempering is found, u're in for a bumpy ride!

and btw, getting number changed on book has adverse effect on the resale value of the car too. but atleast its legal!
