Default Honda City 2005, Engine Overhaul

    Hello

I need some advice, please. My car reduces oil and gives white smoke when the engine has run for some time and is hot. When the engine is cold, it does not give any smoke. I got a compression test and the Honda Service Center told me that the 2nd and 3rd cylinder have gone weak, less than 70% compression, while cylinder 1 and 4 are ok (more than 85% compression).

They have recommended an engine overhaul. On the odo meter, the car has done 95,000 kms but since it is 2nd hand I am not sure it is ok.

I am in Quetta, where you dont have very competent mechanics as well.

Can someone please give me advice.

    Thnx

Take an estimate of engine overhaul from HONDA 3S .
U can also swap a good condition engine from used car parts market.

I heard Honda engines are not good enough for overheaul anyways....better go for a swap especially when its hard for a good mechanic for Honda engines in Quetta. I think you be able to find a sound 1.5 litre iDSI engine.

Greatful for the replies, but how do you go about finding a good engine. After all these engines have also been exposed to rough conditions and one is never sure of what you get in the market.

What should be looked for if an engine for a swap?

Also do you absolutely rule out overhaul? After all engines do get overhauled.

may if u get it overhauled from company it might work(which they would charge aloooooot)
road side mechanics, and parts from open market and desi kharadia
might last few months if lucky

If You Want Rebuild......Get It From COSTLY 3S ......Still No Guarantee They Will Do It Perfectly But LOOK For Best In Town And It Will Work Fine...!

Regarding Swap So Its Also On Chance.....If You Find Good Condition Block Head So It Will Work Like A Treat.....For That ..You Need To Check Compressions Before Buying Which No One Do Nor people Know....!!

Maybe Its An Oil Ring Stuck Or WORN Wrings In Cyl 2 And 3.....!!

Partially damaged head gasket and loose cylinder head bolts could be the causes for this problem.

Thnx a lot for the advice. How should I go about getting the head gasket and cylinder bolts checked. Would this require the engine to be opened up or would opening of the block head suffice.

There is another aspect that I think I should have highlighted in my initial post. The spark plugs are not oily (or black). They remain redish. When the spark plugs are taken out, there is oil on them at the top, not at the points. The Engine still throws water. These two things make me doubtful again.

    Could someone please comment. Thnx.

I finally went for engine overhaul. I was surprised when the engine was opened up. The 2nd and 3rd cylinder had sand in them which actually looked like someone had thrown in some loose sand. The rings had worn out from one side, which indicated that the engine had sometime ago overheated.

Anyways, total cost is about 40,000 incl all parts and labour.

The engine is performing fine. Surprisingly the sound has changed from the original. Though I am still completing the initial 500 kms running. A few interesting things came up. The pipes carrying the coolant to the heater in the car were rusted at the ends. I had the heater removed to discover that the coolant had really damaged the pipes and the heater inside. I discussed with the local mech to learn that the damage had probably been done by sub-standard coolants available in the market.
The assembly that houses the air filter was also taking air from outside. This had probably resulted in the amount of dirt in the engine.

i am sorry to see this condition of city...please pay a visit to 1st owner and request him what he did with this car, also reward him with some shield or medal...seriously man i had city 2004 drove 195,000kms and engine was as good as new.first 40,000kms were on petrol rest all on gas.yet on the very last day engine had really good feeling in terms of power and no signs of smoke were there.maybe the owner used car with 3rd grade air filter and oil filter.
air filter let the dust particles pass through them and oil filter maybe got clogged due to heavy dust particles and bypassed the dirty oil without cleaning and caused this.
another reason could be using oil for more then its specified time period.
use good oil, air filter and oil filters and replace oil after specified time.best of luck

Of course the sound was to change, because the engine is now in a different state. It probably sounds like a new idsi engine since you have been hearing to it in a bad shape since quite some time.

acha, by the air filter thing, do you mean the air box was broken? or was the cng venturi lose? Cz I am not sure how can it suck so much dirt inside just due to a leak.

and more than sub standard coolants, what actually damages the pipes is plain tap water used in the radiator. Even that doesn't harm the pipes that much k they start leaking, what actually happens is our mechanics remove the heater water distribution piping to improve AC performance in summers. It leads to pipes drying up and that promotes rusting. I am sure that has happened in the history of ur car otherwise there is no way the pipes could've rusted to death and you wouldn't even know.

And I have a idsi 2003, it has 218k kms on the clock and is MashALLAH running more than perfect. Though I don't consider it very reliable as it has already lived its life. Its just the way it performs that makes me count on it everyday.Though soon inshALLAH, I won't be over hauling the motor, I'll simply swap in a L15A vtec motor in it. More power, more economy.
@ahmadbila has 2006 idsi having 260k on the clock and mashALLAH, its even better than my car. AT the end of the day, maintenance is all that matters. Carry it out in a decent way and your car won't be giving up on you for at least 10 years.

    @ big mama
my car is running fine but its engine is now in the final stage. it has started reducing oil for some time now. but i aint complaining! 260k kms on CNG is a heck lot of mileage. but i think people should get an estimate as to how much kms their cars actually are when they start consuming oil. im the first owner so the mileage is original. although i maintained the car properly but i did ask for a lot of work from it (every type of work including but not limited to towing cars, hauling heavy good, racing and mud bashing ) if mine was drive by my dad or sumone who drives calmly, it would ve done 350k kms with ease! infact i plan on driving the car like this until it hits 300k kms mark n only then will i do sumthing about the engine.
