Default "Cluck" sound from Civic (1.8) auto transmissions

    Dear all,

I have noted that in my 2008 Civic Prosmatec, a "Cluck" type of sound comes when you shift into Drive. I have noted that if you shift into Drive with the brake pressed and leave the brake pedal about 2 seconds after shifting into drive, the sound will not come. If you leave the brake as soon as you shift into Drive, the sound will come. I have heard this sound coming from other automatic civic's as well. I would like to know what this sound actually is, and should we wait for 2 seconds before leaving the brake, or is this sound not of any concern?

Note: I always bring my car to a complete stop before shifting into Drive or Reverse.

Civic owners please share your experiences and knowledge to this "issue."

I agree it is the parking pawl ratchet and that honda do not make great auto trannies. But there Manual trannies are the best in the industry.

The parking pawl noise is there in all auto trannies but the noise is dumpened in other Makes and quite noticable is some.

is this what exactly happens. this sound also comes in both of my civics which are 7th and 8th gen. the proper way is to get the car completely standstill and brake pressed then shift b/w gears. the sound is most probably of the engine mounts coz it comes from within the engine bay.

Manual reborn lags in 2nd gear.
The charm in reborn is definitely prosmatec transmission.

Its due to partially pressed clutch. Try it someday!
But it sure needs to be cured as man is not perfect.

Well i only drove manual reborn like 3 times i think, had alot of fun as compared to prosmatec but i felt that it does lag in 2nd gear.
will check out clutch next time.
and i also drove a city vtec manual but the clutch was relatively soft and didnt feel any sort of lag at all...

thats not bcoz of any fault in the gearbox, it happens if u park ur car on a slope and before pulling up the handbrake u get the gear lever in ''P" and then when u again get the lever out of "P" then this jerk takes place.

always pull up the hand brake before putting ur car in "P" or if u don't pull up the hand brake then u shud press the brake pedal untill u pull the hand brake.
