From top above the a.c grills just pull it back by fingers a bit of force is required for that but not too much ,it might damage the console..

its better to spend 100rs and get it done by some one rather then spoiling the whole thing.

Its not just about pulling. You need to remove thoose 3 knobs first, then maybe there are some screws, Remove them as well, after that the console is easily detachable (as only clips are left) if any screw is left and u pulled it hard, you might damage it.
Get over the fact that Xli lacks power windows, Its an Xli because it lacks thoose features or else it would be a Gli or an Altis if had all the goodies.

You just need to remove the three knobs like Chinyoti said and put your nails inside the sides of the panel to remove it. Its kind of a little tough for a new person to judge if he is applying the right force to remove it without breaking it. SO the first time is always good to be done by an expert. Thats what I did too. Next time I knew i wasnt hurting the clips of the panel when i installed my dvd.

    No knob removal required

    But
There are two screws underneath that console which are accessed by removing the ashtray that need to be unscrewed
After that pry/pull it, the whole thing comes off pretty easily.

It will result in the removal of center console with everything conected. Pull off the wire harnesses and then you will seperate it from the dash.

BTW i own that model of civic and have DIY Audio installed the car, must have removed the console at least a 100+ times

If you are opening it for the first time, then you have to unscrew the two screws underneath that console as told by DrShaggy. Mostly the music system installation guys don't screw them back so that they don't have to go through this extra work next time. You do not have to remove the knobs. This whole grey panel would come out along with the player and knobs.
