Most important factor which causes fuel injector clogging is drying of petrol on the injector nozzle. Unfortunately it can’t be avoided even if a car is primarily using CNG as fuel. Those cars which use petrol just for starting and immediately switch to CNG afterwards, have the same possibility of injector clogging as those which are driven on petrol. When an engine starts, the fuel flows through injectors and when it is turned off, the last drop dries on the minute hole of the fuel injector nozzle and leaves behind deposits. These deposits become stringent with the chamber heat and clog the injector. Efi cars essentially start on petrol even if their main fuel is CNG therefore the phenomenon of evaporation of petrol on the injector tip is common and equal in both type of cars. Gasoline additives and detergents already mixed into the gasoline we buy, help reduce this problem, but they can’t eliminate it entirely. Injectors periodically need to be cleaned. Some experts in the west recommend cleaning the injectors every 20,000 to 25,000 miles to keep them flowing at peak efficiency. But considering the fuel quality and climatic conditions of Pakistan I recommend injector cleaning after every 15 to 20 thousand kilometers.

Normally people hesitate in using fuel additives as they can cause harm to the fuel lining, some parts in the submersed fuel pump and could result in choked fuel filters. Some people don’t like use of such solvents as they end up carrying all the loosen sediments and dirt finally inside the engine. Of course additives are not the best solution for the problem but they can be helpful if few preventive measures are taken. Professional websites recommend change of fuel filters and engine oil after use of additive type fuel system and injector cleaners. Fuel additives are of no help in worse conditions where engine don’t start or there is too much of missing due to badly clogged injectors. No starting…no circulation of fuel…no cleaning.

Off vehicle sonic cleaning of injectors is internationally accepted most effective solution for injector clogging problem as it doesn’t risk any component of the fuel system. Results are acquired without having to drive hundreds of miles or burning tanks of fuel. Additives only make part cleaning of injectors whereas off vehicle sonic cleaning of injectors ensures complete cleaning in the injector nozzle. Observing the spray pattern and acquiring symmetric flow can only be achieved by means of off vehicle sonic cleaning.
Periodic fuel injector servicing gives you maximum power, best fuel economy, optimized performance, Reduced engine wear, Driving pleasure and satisfaction.

I have 2007 Corolla. It is on CNG. Now this is happening for the past few days now that when I start the car in the morning, it gives black smoke and I smell petrol. Basically what happens is my car starts on petrol and then automatically converts to CNG after 1-2 seconds. So when it starts on petrol I can see smoke during that 1 - 2 seconds and could also smell petrol.
But once car converts to CNG, the smoke is gone and so is the smell. I showed it to mechanic he said the car is approaching 100,000 KM (it is at 88,000KM) so will need injector cleaning. He said to buy a liquid injector cleaner (the one shown in pic above) and mix it in petrol after getting tank full.
I said just change engine oil, oil filter, air filter and do engine tuning but still after doing this the problem remains. Then I thought it could be due to very low fuel in tank because a few days back I saw an ad by Indus Motors in Dawn where they said that all Corollas with CNG must contain at least 15 litres of petrol in their tank to function properly. So I will it up with around 13 liters but problem remains.

So I want to ask what could be the reason and will injector cleaning do the job?

Yeah it sure will, my dads prado was giving ALOT of black smoke when it started...he took it to the diesel lab from where they cleaned the injectors and adjusted them. They also found out that one injector wasnt even working properly so they changed em. Now the engine sound is much better, and its running smoother than ever ! Oh and the smoke is gone.
Your car is petrol but i think you should get it checked, cause if it is not the injector problem they wont even open your engine. After seeing the improvements in my dads prado. I took my 2.0D to the lab, which had no problem at all but i took it just for the hell of it. So when i got there they asked me if it was giving any starting problems, smoke or bad milage. I said no its fine but i just want to get its injectors cleaned n stuff. They refused to do anything, they said that come back when something is wrong lol.
