    Default civic poor fuel average

My civic 1998 LXI is running on petrol for the past 6 months. it use to run on cng before that. Now the car is giving around 7-8 KM per liter which is not ideal. i got it tuned on petrol but the average didn't increase. there is no sensor error well at least it doesn't show up. i tried running the car on hi octane but the engine didn't accept it the car was knocking and didn't have any pick on hi octane. there is no starting trouble and i drive like an average driver. I got the spark plugs and wires checked they turned out to be ok. i got the throttle body cleaned also. One mechanic said that the throttle body needs to be changed as a unit because cng cuts through it or something like that. The fuel pump is also working properly. I have visited Naeem near nurani kabab house(the signal next that comes after it) . He checked the exhaust levels they were ok. The injectors were also ok. Now what do i need to do to increase the average. Suggestions are highly appreciated. thanks. i am in Karachi if any recommendations are to be given regarding places where i can get it tuned on computer.

P.S: computer testing to see coolant temperature sensor values and intake temperature sensors values. See if thermostat valve is installed or not and if not then you found your culprit.
CAT converter was not in the Civic untill Reborn.

Some other thoughts: Is there possibly an exhaust leak upstream of the O2 sensoror an intake air or vacuum leak? How's the idle speed? Have you measured the fuel pressure? Valve clearance is off?

It is not necessary for O2 to throw Check Light its very common they work off but not throw CEL

    Are you having CEL?

    No O2 sensor either.

Check if your distributor, wires and coil are giving enough current to all cylinders for proper spark.

no check engine light in the car. the idle speed is stable. i don't have rpm in the meter so don't know exactly what the idle is. valve clearance is ok got them checked from mechanic. i don't know how to get fuel pressure measured.

Probably your car does not have O2 so i guess

    1. Fuel Pressure Regulator
    2. Check for Fuel Pressure
    3. Is your setup original ? i mean Engine and ECU is original ?
    4. Now it is very important you go and hook scanner with it and share your Short and Long Term Fuel Trim Values here.

The local mechanic will pull out your fuel pump and could do the famous water tub test in which the fuel pump will work like a water fountain.

And which is useless........ mechanics did on my car and said your fuel pump is a toast where as when i checked In Rail fuel pressure it was 38 I blocked return line it went above 48 so for sure that fountain trick is not worth it get it done with fuel gauge

Sir definitely when u blocked return line the pressure will skyrocket but if the pump is not making a pressure at all or there are gaps in flow it will be revealed in the water fountain test.

Nahi dost....... what my test concluded that Fuel Pump did not had problems creating the pressure it was Fuel Pump Regulator. You cant tell if pressure is within specific range with so called water fountain test. In cars with FPR on Rail there are two pressure specifications Idle and WOT...........

Does your car has catalytic convertor? A choked catalytic convertor plays hell with fuel consumption, however, another indication is that the engine appears powerless.
