It is rather unfortunate that the ruling Troika (Toyota-Honda-Suzuki) are the only game in the market and the minds of every other person here. Be it due to resale value, easy availability of parts in every nook and cranny of the country, peer pressure (yes its true), the "hot-cake" factor etc; these are just enough reasons why companies other than the three above wont be given a second thought.
Mitsubishi & Nissan: By far, my most preferred of the Japanese brands. Lets face it, some people just dont want to go with the flow and get something that isnt a Honda or a Toyota etc. Not to mention that the vehicle quality is better compared to a large scale manufactured car that can have way to many faults (quantity over quality). The only hiccup is that the new ones arent priced realistically (but then again, which car is) and the expensive spares, not to mention the scarce availability.
Chevrolet: One thing that I do admire about Chevy here is that they've kept their lineup updated even though there are a very few Chevys out there. Starting with the Exclusive & Optra, they added the Aveo and Joy later, and rumor has it the Cruze is soon coming over. Quite admirable and realistic, trying to bring something new every now and then is always what turns heads. People here go crazy over new cell phone models so why not new cars. Unless its a Trokia car with a new front grill?
Proton: The response I had at the showroom was very friendly and even offered a test drive of any model at their Korangi facility. I checked out the Gen-2, Saga and the Impian and was literally blown away with the package. The Gen-2 is definitely more bang for the buck, the Impian in a class of its own, while the Saga looks incomplete without a respectable looking dashboard. Given the option of buying a new car, I would go with the Gen-2 any day, after fighting off an entire family of critics first.
Havent really seen the Chinese models up close and personal so I really cant make a comment about them. Most of the reviews I've heard sound satisfactory and hope that is indeed the case. But this thread would be incomplete if I didnt mention the brand thats taken more verbal abuse from just about anybody: the Kia.
Ive had the Classic NGV since 2005. Ever since then, I had no idea how long it would be around with me, what with hearing every sob story people that didnt really experience driving it would keep saying. Glad to say, I have never regretted my decision. The car has become my pride & joy and I find it really hard to ever let it go. Since it was the first actual car that became my responsibility to maintain as well as drive, I learned a very valuable lesson. A car is just as similar to any other person you make a commitment to. You take care of it, nurture it, enjoy it; and in turn it will never disappoint you. To all the critics and the haters who probably never got a good model or are suffering because theirs doesnt have the resale value they want, well tough luck. Dont hate the car because you cant commit to using it the way it was intended. A car is meant to be driven, to provide transportation, to help you in all your emergency situations when you need wheels.
But hey, im going off topic. The Lifan looks good and I happened to view their website some time ago. They had a couple of really good models and their current website has them here:

The 620 has a really nice large car presence and in another universe could have been a good Camry lookalike. Nevertheless, all power to them and here's hoping manufacturers can try a bit more harder to penetrate the Pakistani mindset. Proton, Chevy etc need to not just advertise more, but also create awareness among the masses if they are to succeed.
