Geely MK2.. the KingKong

Today the MK aka KingKong has undergone a minor face-lift and is called as MK2/ KingKong 2.. the facelift offers some minor changes in front grill & rear lights while the interior has been re-worked. this car is also displayed on the Geely Pakistan website, the site which is 'under construction' since ages.. God knows when would the lineup see a launch here..

The KingKong measures 4342*1692*1435mm having a 1.5 liter DOHC engine licensed from Toyota which is said to be the one used in Toyota Soluna. The engine produces 94bhp & 128nm of torque & meets the Euro IV emission standards..

Features include Driver & Passenger Airbags, ABS with EBD, Central Locking & Remote Keyless Entry, Sunroof (luxury version), Tilt Adjustable Steering Wheel, CD/ MP3 Player etc. The crash test score is said to be 3 stars, however its not confirmed. Price starts from 51,800 CNY (6.29 lac PKR) to 59,800 CNY (7.26 lac PKR) for the luxury version.

except for a little possible intrusion from the pedals caused by the front wheel moving back i think the vehicle preformed quite well in the crash test. airbags are a big bonus. main passenger compartment doesn't seem to suffer any deformation which coudl be very good (but transfers more energy to the the occupants if it is not dissipated through the chassis)

B-pillar seems pretty strong when you consider the forces involved. i am sure it'll do alot better that other cars in its class (the ones available here).

however like the small chevy sedan (forgot the name of the one smaller than the optra) it'll probably be ignored (even though its a much better option thatn the city in terms of safety) because in PK it's all about hondas and toyotas,... :mad:

Aveo ur talking about? i think the other problem with most of the newcomers is the lack of proper marketing & awareness among the consumers. Geely, Proton, Chevy all need some serious marketing to push their products outside the showrooms. Geely dealership has been so lousy, their website is under construction since a year or so and they were supposed to relaunch their lineup (CK, MK, FC & Panda) in Jan 2010 while there is no such news as yet..

Geely Group will launch MK KingKong in Western Australia in February 2011.The model features a 1.5L, four-cylinder petrol engine, with a maximum power of 69 kW.

MK is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission only, along with air-conditioner, two front airbags, remote central locking, alloy wheels, mp3 compatible, four-speaker CD/stereo and power steering.

Customers are provided five color options: black, white, grey, red and silver.

The car will be sold in Western Australia only for the next two years, because it will not be launched with electronic stability control, required by Victoria's mandatory ESC regulations.
