    lol - motor to connect to belts. You are supposed to tap into the negative wire from the ignition coil, its inside the distributor - but would already be a wire from it as the original toyota A/C system works off the tach (rpm signal)

    very easy job, - if you want it to look original, find the original rpm signal wire in the engine bay and trace it to your dashboard - besides the A/C amplifier wiring, tap the wire into it and feed it to the gauge signal. You rpm would work.

    Or do the classic Pakistani style, buy the cheapest wire from the "parts ki dukaan" splice into the distributor coil negative and fish it through the firewall to the gauge.

    a little more details for the Pakistani tareeqa ilaaj

    Nitto tape should be used on twisted wire joints in the engine room, the wire should be of extremely shoddy quality with the most ghastly colour combinations.

    The real way.

    Trace the wire with a self powered tester or multimeter and find the location in the dash, splice and solder additional wire to the original wire and cover with heatshrink tubing. Or wire tap the thing in place.

    @poster
    proper apparatus for tapping a wire is tap connector or T-Tap connector, just google it and you'll know whats its like, it wont cut the wire and let you another pin out for your use and as @xulfiqar said use heat shrink not only it makes job look nice and pro and doesnt came off as tape, if you didnt solder the joint even then it wont let the twist become loose, i use two heat shrinks on each joint from each direction.

    T-taps are sorta difficult to find here, at least i couldnt find em at college road RWP or gawalmandi, you may check ur market, and heat shrink will cost you no more then PKR 30 per meter and thats alot of heat shrink.

    If it had factory installed A/C then YES - the A/C amplifier used the engine rpm signal to compare it to the A/C compressor rpm signal and shut down the compressor if an error of 15% existed (worn/oily/loose belt)- thats why the original compressor pulley is the same size as the crank pulley in your car. When our charya mechanics install a sanden unit - they overdrive the compressor by using a small pulley to increase pumping, but cut up every wire and make it direct connection.

    If the negative of the coil was earthed - your engine will never start as the ignition coil would never fire. It must have been something else.

    its called a wrap up in my terms - there is probably nothing much wrong than weak corroded wires, and hes just twisting and taping them it happens A LOT in Karachi and they would just lie to your face - taar earth thee, shaart thee etc.
