    Default Corolla 86 consumption problem

aoa. i have a corolla 86 with 2e engine. i m getting 8/9 km/1liter on it. i want to know what mileage should i get on this engine? i want something arround 15/16 is it possible with this engine? if yes kindly tell how shoud i tune this engine. mechanic says it needs rings. also note this engine has never been overhauled or opened. also suggest should i just tune this engine or go for swap with 4efe? i dont need power just need economy.
    in short the question is...
"how can i shift my mileage from 8km/1liter to 16km/liter? keeping the budget minimum"
    thanx

    rebuild it
2E is very easy to rebuild and its a tough engine by all means.
however the max u would get on petrol is something around 12km/ltr

if u plan to get something like 14-15, you can try a 4efe

agreed with hash4. according to my research too 2e will take me to 12 maximum. but my daily travel is around 60/70 km and its costing my rs.1000 . so need a cheaper solution. theres no cng in area i m living n working right now. so petrol or diesel is the only option. i have also heard of 1N diesel engine what about that? if we compare 1N and 4EFE? some1 told me that there are very cheap engines in zhob baluchistan. any1 hav any info about that?

    1N head can be problematic
plus not only diesel running cost is more, car maintenance after conversion would be high

    look for 4efe
if budget doesnt allow, get new rings and smaller jets in the carby

i c. to what extent u think smaller jets and rings will improve mileage? on the other hand if i go for 4efe.. here on pw many ppl talking about complications in engine swaping (wiring wise n fuel pump). what about that?

Problem can be solved with a 2NZFE 16valve VVTI engine & transmission with an ECU. do a complete swap and fuel consumption will be close to about 15 km/L with aircon. if you use tyre size 185/70/R13 which is stock wheel size on a EE80 / AE80

it is very same engine used in VITZ / BELTA 1.3 L and pakistan made corolla XLI

hey man a well tuned 2E can easily get 12+kms/l in city driving. I m getting abt 14kms/l here in NZ from 86 corolla with 2E. hw many kms has the car done?? if its not burning oil i ll say stick with the same engine. Get a magnetic distributor if it hasnt got one. Wat carb does it have?? the V one(dont knw wat its called) or the other dual jet one. the latter one is more easy to get tuned in pakistan. Check ur tyre pressure and other things which play a big role in bringing the fuel economy down.

i have to go from D.I.Khan to peshawar if i go for swap. so in this case u think swaping is not the practicle idea?

in NZ? infact i bought this car recently and body wise its excellent. not used much acording to its model. only 65000kms. but some aging effects are obvious. installed new 165/80/13 tyres with 28 front and 30 rear pressure. engine is giving leaks here n there. when stop leak from one side it start from somewhere else. i dont know y its hapning. so engine oil level gets low over time. but i dont know if its due to leakage or burning. i replaced its carb with some 86 model carb with a cultus air filter stuf. i dont know what type cab is it. kindly tell what is magnetic distributor?

a pic of the ur engine bay wud be good.
175/70R13 is the right size tyre for ur car. Pressure here in NZ 34F/32R but ask the others for proper air pressure. try getting ur PCV valve checked or replaced. coz that mite be creating pressure inside and causing leaks. Magnetic distributor is an upgraded version of the old point type distributor that use to come in old 1E and 2E engines. The magnetic one doesnt require any tuning unlike the point type. How does ur exhaust look?? any oil coming from there?? or any blue smoke (oil burning smoke)??

Looking at the pics. u already have the magnetic distributor. The airbox is from cultus which is wat u said. cant u get a toyota original?? Hope u have original toyota carb. I can see a CNG insert thingi in the carb? ur car isnt CNG though. THe leaks dnt look that bad from pics.
    Things i would recommend
Get the carburetor serviced by a pro.
    Get the tappets adjusted.
    Check ur spark plugs.
    check pcv
    get ur tires checked.

one important thing is driving style. its very important for fuel economy.
have u tried checking the mileage on highway? cheers

infact all the leaking is underneath the engine. i try to get some picx of that. ya i could not find compatible toyota airbox thats why took this cultus one. when i bought this car its carb was in bad condition so had to replace with this one. if this carb had been used on cng earlier u think this may b creating prob now on petrol?
my daily travel is on highway (70 kms) and its doing 7/8 kms/liter. carb has already been serviced. but m planning to show it to another mechanic. i drive strictly between 70-80km/hour speeds. tires are new and pressure is 28front and 30 rear.
