    Whats the 'right' way to drive in the 1000 break-in period? I got my grande manual 2 weeks ago and was wondering if I am driving it properly. I am keeping it below 3k rpm but once my cousin drove it ~80 km on odo and pushed to ~4300 rpm in all the gears....wondering if this was alright for a new engine?? Thanks

    I am again leaning towards Altis 1.6. Now can't decide between Medium Silver and Super White. Please help me. Super White is a new colour, but Corolla looks hot in Medium Silver also. Just confine to these two colours please.

    Just follow these basic steps:

    1- Don't idle the car for more than 3 minutes

    2- Don't push the car above 3k rpms

    3- Avoid rapid braking, allow the discs to settle in

    4- Absolutely avoid highway driving/ constant speeds for a long period of time. City driving is your best option!

    5- Change engine oil at 1000 kms to flush away the fresh metal flakes from the new engine (contrary to what IMC suggests).

    Good suggestions but I had my first oil change at 5,000 kms and first transmission, power steering and brake fluid change at 45K kms. Sold the car at 133,000 kms without any single problem. However, I never pushed the car quarter mile style.

    Go for Super white 1.6 Altis.. At a difference of 125k between 1.3 GLI A/T and 1.6 Altis A/T.. you are getting around 80k alloy rim (IF you change a good imported Alloy rim still it cost the Appx same around 60k to 80k ). Also getting around 40 to 60K Navigational unit. A Bigger dual VVTI Engine ( Not Single VVTI engine as in 1.3 GLI A/T so better fuel mileage ) with a power of 1598CC. A super white color only available in Altis and offcourse a badge of Altis too ( lol not so important ) .

    Modern engines & lubticants have evolved upto a point where 'breaking in' isn't very important anymore.
    However, some textbook suggestions do enhance the life of the vehicle. Forninstance, oil reduction after 150,000 miles can be minimised if the engine is properly run in during its early life. Call me old school, but I follow this as a rule of thumb. I want them pistons and brakes to settle down properly before I push my cars to the limit!

    Superwhite as it looks good and also exclusive to Altis

    Thanks but in my case I am moving from Gli MT to Altis 1.6 and the difference is 220,000 exactly. But still it's justified for the all the up specs. So it's almost done now. I have more votes for Super White at the moment.

    Go for Altis 1.6. 1zr-fe is gem of an engine. It revs beautifully and is light on pocket. Rest for the color go for silver, because that front grill in black matches the silver one and car looks more dashing.

    @autophile
    If you have made your mind for Altis 1.6, go for Super White.
