    Default Xli engine noise

    Dear Experts,
My friend owns a 2006 Corolla Xli, CNG fitted. He is facing some problem with intake manifold. On consultation with Toyota Motors mechanic he was told that the intake manifold problem is very common among the cng fitted Xli's. Currently the engine is making weird noise at low r.p.m which seems most likely to be coming from Intake manifold.

    What are the possible causes?
What can be the precautions to be taken in future (after replacing this manifold)?
Also can anyone tell me the price tag plus labor for the replacement of manifold?

The intake manifold of Xli is the most fragile one, made of plastic. Make sure there is no back-fire problem on CNG in future....

its difficult to diagnose the problem by just what you said unless someone has direct experience. its a new car so this should not happen.

you should take it to them and they should check it under warranty.

When I got CNG installed in my XLI its pickup was pathethic and same noise was also coming from the manifold, then I took it to a specialist who closed the air-intake pipe into half by plastic tape, because rich fuel+air mixture was not produced, and that resolved the problem of noise and pickup.

I have had the same problem and have replaced the intke manifold twice. But no use. Its too fragile as one of you mentioned. Everytime you rev it too much past 3500 rpm the intake starts loosing its internal packing. Can someone please tell me if there is some sort of a after market intake manifold out there that made out of solid metal.....this would allow to have a nos setup in corolla as well

Running my xli on CNG for the past one year, no such issue. By the blessing of Allah, I think I got a very good installer. Since March last year have never gone to any workshop, no pick up, missing, starting issue at all and drive just close to petrol

I got the same problem. Changed the intake manifold and the sound was back within 2 days. The car's 150+k on the clock and was driven around 110k on petrol only. Didnt get the problem back then.

Some XLI really produce weird noise on CNG, but some are just like Petrol even on CNG, so check your installer or better mechanic.

One thing set your car at petrol and then switch to CNG.

This is a common problem with EFI rollas, manifold which have a kind of "PARDA" tear off and noice comes like that Engine is faulty.

It normally happen due to very high speed , normally those who drive at a nominal speed won't have this issue

Well, this has happened to me recently & Toyota motors has given me an estimate of around Rs.20000 for replacement of intake manifold,I need to ask, should I go for this deal?

If yes, what sort of cautions should I ask from them?

I have driven my Corolla Xli 2005 bit more than 1 lac KM.

Reply is urgently required & thanx in anticipation.

Thats a common problem on corolla only because of the incorrect installation of CNG and nothing else.
