How about driving one? Thats the only way to answer your question.

If you happen to be in Islamabad, you are welcome for a ride. Anyway, interior wise it has a bigger feeling than City or Baleno. Engine performance is quite good/very responsive. There used to be an advertisement in Reader's Digest about Toyota Supra in 80's...."power is there when I need it". XLi is no different. The 2004 model introduced in Europe and elsewhere has electronic buttons for A/c Controls while we have normal manual types here in XLi.

Brakes are horrible. No ABS. Somehow does not adjust very well on CNG. Fuel is 12 kms/Litre. Resale is highest.

From Paan wala to Taxi wala, every one has got one. Is it something good?

I have one but on the first available opportunity will swap/sell it for a 2005-06 Lancer, 1600cc, White, Automatic transmission with sunroof. Price 1.2 (M). Best buy in this price in Pakistan. Elegant and different.
The tragedy of life is not what we suffer, its rather what we miss.

u will get one with new lights. now that u have booked one, whats the point in discussing it. BEst of luck with your Rolla.
I also have an offical one at home and even sitting on the front seat with someone else driving makes u feel adraid whether it will stop or skid on the next brake. U feel every bump on your ***, no matter how small or big, whole body moves and occupants also move around in big bumps, engine is excellent quite and responsive. space is same as any other sedan around.

tis seen on roads coz people in pakistan have no taste and secondally even if Toyota sells junk to the innocent buyers of Pak,,,they will happily take it if it has a punch of toyota logo on it...
atleast go for a Se-saloon or a Gli
where you get more accessories and atleast Powerwindows.

but i wud agree with the fact that Xli has got a sexy engine setup

I have an Xli and as far as CNG is concerned, it is real good... does 160km in a 55 cyl full tank inside Islamabad... I agree with the brakes thing... they really suck, I guess changing from standard general tyres would help the comfort a bit and the grip too... i would rate this car at 6 between 1-10, with altis at 9, it has a great resale which some ppl think is worth the trouble

I think toyota cannot afford to have anothert bad car like this, because reputition is built over a very long period of time but it can be lost in days.
Many cars are seen because people booked many because of Toyota name and it is still selling on its name. If they kept on doing that to PAkistani MArket, they will be in trouble in the long run.

also there can be 50 solutions to the brake issue but we pakistanis never think that why the problem has occured in the very first place. changing dampers, tyres etc. is a costly solution for anyone. why the cars are sold like this is because people buy it, no matterw hat. Consumer has to make decisions, noone from Toyota points a gun at you to buy one. dont buy it and they will definitely do something to attract you back.

I have an early 2005 XLi, love driving it because engine is very powerful, even in fifth gear you feel the power of third gear and can speed up with a gentle push on the accelator pedal. Ride is very smooth and on bad roads every car gives you jerk. About brakes I am also not satisfied and have got them checked. Toyota Islamabad guys also say that Corolla was good in all aspects excepts its brakes, but they say that these are adjustment problems which can be rectified. If you are a careful driver then you wouldn't face any problems, keep a safe distance from vehicles in front of you and anticipate stoppings. As regarding fuel consumption XLi is giving me nearly 14km/liters in Islamabad. Petorl is about 57rs/lit still I am not even thinking of putting a CNG kit, because with petrol driving is a fun and I don't have to worry for queuing up every second day to fill CNG. A full tank and then I have to see the pump after three weeks, amazing I am running it under 3000 rs/month. Plus it is a good buy for 879,000 rupees as you get a full-bodied sedan with a little 1.3 devilish engine. The matching size Honda cost you minimu one million rs.

every car gives u jerk but this one has beam suspension at the back and it litteraly shakes every occupant. try somne other car especially Nissan (Even older model) and feel the difference. Things should get better with time but Toyota is deteriorating in many aspects. Even Older Corolla had better ride and handling.

Brakes are not adjustment issue, do whatever u can and they will stay the same with current setup.

u r right about the carefull driving but emergency does not tell before happening.

In my conclusion, It is an unsafe car especially when u have better options offering better value and performance.

Do also ask Toyota people how many accidents have occured with this model. They are setting records there.

Noiw u can blame it on the traffic load etc. but there are other cars as well, get percentages from everyone and find out for yourself. Toyota has worst accidents ratio and thats mainly because of the brakes.

Hi dear I am not defending Toyota, I agree that there brakes are not up to the mark, but can you substantiate your claims of Toyotas having more accidents.

Have you conducted any study/survey? or just a fluke? What do you guys mean Hondas, Suzukis, Mitsubishi, Nissan do not have accidents. Even the best cars in the world have accidents. What happened to the Merc in which Diana was killed.

By the way Pakistan has the world's third highest death rate from road accidents, the government says. Reckless drivers, overcrowded vehicles and poor roads are usually blamed.

What about GLI, 2.0D, SE Saloon, are these models less prone to accidents, if you can check this also from Toyota dealers in Isloo. I think if we can get the actual records from all main cities where Toyota has 3S dealers and survey all private workshops, then we can put the data in a worksheet and generate grafs and charts and show it to the world how bad cars they are making. Anyone would like to join this project?

Hi Spectra lets discuss the outline but before that can you get the data from Toyota Islamabad and Toyota capital, and also check that this data is sent and compiled somwhere at IMC in Karachi? I am asking you because you have seen their records, I presume.

We need all accidents reported at these workshops so that we can compare XLI, GLI, SE Saloon, 2.0D, 2.0D Saloon accidents between October 2002 to November 2005.

Also our research would be more enriched if we can get lay our hands on Honda and Suzuki accidents. So that we are able to say which cars met less or more accidents during the reference period.

Do you think the dealers or assemblers would provide us their data sheets, if they have any?

Any suggestions? Other members who can get the official records are also welcome to join.
