Headlight Restoration DIY :Results:

Hello everyone, okay so my Honda City 2003 EXi has done 124,000km, now the headlights were showing signs of wear and tear due to debris in the environment, they had gone yellow and rough due to Oxidation.

The condition wasn't as bad as I've seen on some other cars but still I decided to clean them up

Items Used:

• 1000 Grit Sandpaper
• Rubbing Compound
• Brass Polish
• Sensodyne Toothpaste, YES TOOTHPASTE !

So, after doing some Google research, I found out that Toothpaste is not only useful for your teeth, but for your headlights as well

To my surprise, the result was GREAT (H)

Note: I've just finished up with one headlight, both headlights were in the same condition, I'll be doing the second headlight in the evening, will take pictures of every step as well

Things To Do:

• Application of UV Protectant

UPDATE: Just got done with second headlight, absolutely stunning result!

I'll upload more pictures tomorrow, just went for a test drive at night and the cutoff is much sharper now, the light was dispersed everywhere previously.

I didn't use any buffer for this DIY so my hands definitely hurt but it was worth it

results are good but you shud have used a 2000 grit sandpaper

I did at first but some scratches on the left headlight lens were too deep for it, they were still slightly visible, so I had to use 1000 Grit sandpaper for an even and more smooth job on both the headlight lenses

This is how your headlight will look after some thorough buffing using the sandpaper, don't worry if they look hazy, as you start applying the polish, the shine will be restored

The 1000 Grit sandpaper I used, remember, soak the sandpaper in soapy water and keep spraying the headlight with the soapy water while buffing.

Yeah I realized I'll have to spray them with polish once a week or so, I bought a Meguiar's UV Protection and sprayed it over both of them so lets see

thata a great product if u found the original one, just use that once a week, they wont yellow again anytime soon, btw are those Taiwanese lights, the originals rarely go yellow

Nope, these are original, its been a family car since it got out of the showroom, the lights have never been replaced
