2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser spark plug change

Toyota recommends changing spark plugs every 30k miles on the US specification FJ Cruiser. I changed out the plugs approaching 60k miles on my 2007 model, the trick's second change. It is a relatively easy job.

Tools needed: 10 and 12 mm sockets, spark plug socket, extensions.
Time taken: About 30 minutes.

I chose these iridium-tipped plugs from Denso:

I started on the driver's side first:

This is the top bolt of the bracket that is in the way:

And this is the bottom bolt, a bit of a reach:

The left side #2 and #3 coils are accessible after removing the bracket:

Disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the 10 mm bolt to remove the coil:

Insert and seat the spark plug socket securely with an extension before removing it:

The new and old plugs side by side:

The #2 coil:

The plug appears blurry, but it can be seen how deep it is in the tube:

There is enough room to remove the #1 coil with removing anything else:

You may need to add extensions to get to the plug itself:

The three plugs on the passenger side are very easy once the air filter housing is unclipped and moved aside:

It is just light reflecting off an area where the dust has been disturbed. The real color is black, it just appears bluish due to the LED light.

you can see that toyota actually gave a damn when designing it - the plugs are replaceable in field. - Ever try to change plugs on a W body chevy?

its design went like this.

nice sum just to get the plugs changed....
