Importers leave the cars at the port, since they are not fined until two months after the car has arrived on the port. After that they get charged approx 500 Rs a day. They do not clear the cars , cuz then they have to pay the duty and such. Once the car gets cleared from the customs, its document get stamped with the date of clearance. A car with a clearance date of 3-4 months old means they have not been able to sell it and that gives the buyer a stronger position to negotiate. Dealers don't like that...and wait till they have a customer who can pay for the car at the port and then get it cleared.
I think Karachi has a lot more selection of cars at the port. If I get a chance to go there, I will be sure to take some pics....You can see Lahore port did not have a whole lot of cars and the ones they have are in pretty bad shape.
