Toyota Vitz 2008 1.3L 4WD...Fuel Consumption

Hi there,

I recently bought a Toyota Vitz 2008 which 1.3L and 4WD (2SZ-FE) but the shaft was removed, so it is 2WD now. It is driven 68000 km original in Japan, but i dont think till now air filter or fuel filter have been changed. It do not have the CVT transmission it has the other one with D, 3, 2 and L options. I changed all the oils (not any filters) and got brand new 14 inch dunlop soft road silent Tyres with alloy rims. After all the things done I managed to get 10 km/L at max with 10 liter high octane in the tank too. I calculated as follow: (kindly correct me if i did it wrong):-

Total Tank: 42 Liters

Car speedometer shows 8 bars, so: 42/8 = 5.25 liters/bar

In one bar it went 50 KM exact. So 50/5.25 = 9.5-10 Km/L.

Kindly help and tell me how to improve fuel economy as official readings are 14-15 km/L. This is the maximum which i managed to get in City along with A/C all the time. Please HELP!!!

it looks like 2NZ-FE, by removing the rear drive shaft u gonna overload the front differential + axles, as its a 4WD design, I hav 1.3L 2SZ-FE 2WD it gives around 15 - 16km/L in city

No you have calculated it in a wrong way. Proper procedure is.
Get it's fuel tank full. Drive around for some 150-200 km's and then fill again. Now see how many liters are refueled again. Suppose it's 12 liters and your car is driven around 140km.
140/12 = 11.66. This reading tells you the car's mileage per kilometers.
and don't disturb the car by removing it's drive shaft. Let it be on it's factory specs and always use genuine products for better mileage and pick. Keep air filter clean.

i saw an unregisterd Black Civic yesterday with IDO registration, however, that was a Staff Car. no idea abt this one :S somethng feels machlee machlee here

Dude its a full time 4WD version, company has designed it in such a way that the drive force distributes equally in all the wheels, as u hav removed the rear drive shaft now front differential + axles has to put extra effort in order to drag the car.

u r calculating it in a wrong way, just go to Petrol Pump & ask the guy to fill the tank (full) then reset ur ODO meter Trip A/B, drive the car for a week, then again refill the tank (full), this time note the Liters (Dispenser)

For eg
Petrol: 28.5 Liters
Trip A/B : 444.6km

Mileage : 444.6 / 28.5 = 15.6 km / L

Bro actually it was the first day so had to borrow friends Government car number plates to go to market and pass the police chokkiess =D....But now Its Islamabad registered

Bro can u tell me that does 2WD and 4Wd have alot different fuel consumption? As one is CVT (2wd) and the other is ECT, i guess (4wd)

Yup 4WD is not CVT, its designed for performance not an economical Car.

putting the shaft back will not increase the mileage as far as i know, dude as an experiment u can calculate the fuel average with & without the rear wheels drive shaft. u know what 2NZ-FE comes in XLI Corolla so Engine parts would be no issue

Brother it is a high compression engine.

Try to fill 5-10 litre HOBC and then try to calculate the mileage.

Bro I already had 10 liters of High Octane from Caltex along with the normal petrol when I calculated my mileage. But yet I have to calculate in the right way stated above
