Sadly, John DeLorean died this year.
He really was a visionary, but had a complicated life. He never was convicted of the cocaine deal, as it was proven to be entrapment. This was set up by U.S. Government officials at the request of the Belfast, Ireland Government (under the table, of course), because the assembly plant was in Belfast and John took the Irish Government for about $185 million. He was too busy doing other things and didn't focus on this project like he should have. He was a great Engineer in his day, but became more of a self promoter than Engineer in the end.
I attended his funeral and there were not nearly as many people there as I expected. We used to lift weights together at the Franklin Racquet Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in the eighties. He was more fit than me when he was 70 and I was 28, and I could bench press 240 lbs.
He inspired me to do much of what I am doing in my life now and was truly misunderstood.
May he rest in peace...
