    Default Cholistan Rally 2010 experience

    (Pinks) MOD EDIT:
    Cholistan Experience video

    The video is 30 mins

    Dear Friends,

We had a splendid trip to Cholistan this year. Its was our first time being a rally participant. The atmosphere was charged and so were NN and myself. NN drove his LC 100 series whereas i was in Pajero 2.5 TDi. Both were running stock with roll cages being installed as a mandatory requirement. Navigators were; Pink Panther and Fishak and ground support and flag off was done by Laparwah. Thanks guys for making this event a success.

From the very begining it was decided that we would not be competing for the podium but would focus on endurance. The intention was to finish the rally in one piece and in peace and this is exactly what we did.

Will be posting pics and videos as we move along....

Totally agreed Qasim, very difficult to write anything with vehicle moving up and down, the driver shouting have you written this bump at 2km? etc etc. And we didn't even have any paper on us to write, these notes were made at the back of sheet given by rally people which I put up above. So even if we went further for recce, we wouldn't have had anything to write on.

By the way, I am still all praise for my navigator, who despite all my ............. remained very calm headed and kept saying push push push (no no no not like in maternity unit ). Actually when he made a wrong call during qualifying, he decided not to give me directions, just bottle of cold water / drink from the cool box everytime I asked for it, the rest he was busy taking pictures and making vdos etc. Later I made him frantically look through the owner's manual to check if the oil presurre range had gone beyond normal range. With the vehicle constantly bouncing up n down it was rather hard to find that, but he eventually managed and obviously presuure reading was fine as well.

Many Thnx Fihsak, for ur great company during this unforgetable experience!

Reccee speeds are around 50 to 60 km/hour, with a lot of discussions between driver and navigator and in case of doubt, re-entry to the turn or obsticle at a little higher speed. Rally speeds, especially for A category vehicles are around 150 to 160 km/h. You cant run the audio recording at three times the speed and still understand it.

Rally notes need to be on paper or marked on a GPS, no other way around is practical

one can write them after the recce, ofcourse i wasn't suggesting to use audio during the race aswell, u would never be able to find the right clip at the right time.

anyways it was just an idea, navigators would do wt they are comfortable with

Thnx, well windows are kept open slightly according to your need. In both the rally and qualifying the participants are released from starting point after 3 minutes intervals, so you are racing against time, so unless you over take someone or are being overtaken you do not follow in anyones dust or mud. One would briefly close window for that I suppose. To give you an idea, I was overtaken by 3 vehicles during the total 230km run, two of them were winners in other categories, third one had a puncture after crossing me, so I passed him back little while later! The qualifying is fairly short, so no overtaking. Qualifying time/ speed gives the grid position for race , so if you are slow in qualifying, you start later and unlikely you will become much faster in race and start overtaking people. However (like myself being crossed by faster people) mistakes during qualifying can make you start behind slower vehicle, which you cross during rally itself.

Finally although we had our AC on partly (with windows closed during rally), mostly the AC was off and my windows were slighly open. On straighter faster runs (I hit speeds upto 148kmph, without AC) I would close windows and just leave fresh air coming in through the vents.

You just needed an excuse to bump this thread again, didn't you Good good, you know I always enjoy this one! Beats the crap out of "what you think of my Cayenne?" anyday!

But seriously, the DinMahar chap sure did pick his spots well for the shots! And its a mammoth coverage of the Cholistan rally with what seems to be an oldish big tape video cam. You gotta love the date and time feed in the corner, pretty useful eh?

Some excellent coverage of my fave ride on this one the silver Wrangler. @nn: I am just a bit confused on this clip which seems to be from the qualifying day, though from the video of your LC run I don't seem to recall these bumpy deep sand sections. Can you shed some light here. Thanks!

It was really nice to be able to bump up the thread with these vdos, they have brought back great memories. This is the first time I have seen these clips, thanks to you!

And also special thanks to Din Mahar who i must say is quite a rally lover, he has made some lovely vdos and uploaded them, it requires plenty of patience just standing in direct sun for such long times.

Yup the clips is from Qualifying, vdo from inside is deceptive, we were being thrown around plenty. Am attaching the onboard quali vdo again, the deep bumpy bit starts just after 1.05 minute, when Kashif asks me to go down to D2, and I tell him needs D1. The famous "hard right" follows shortly after! The bumpy area finishes at 1:55 at the start of long back straight!

I got a confirmation that TDCP has announced dates for Cholistan 2012 ( 17,18, 19th of February 2012 !!??) and thought it was time to put some life back in this good old mother of rally threads

Its appears that in 2008 Ghulam Hussain Sharr beat at least three competitive Evos with his stock triple nelson Jeep TJ. Was 4th in category and 5th overall!! Maashallah!

    Cholistan Rally 2010 experience -1015588

In the words of Ronnie Patel as related to me by Ghulam Hussain himself : "Ghulam Hussain, ham Wrangler ko race kee gaaree nahin maantey, yeh tumharee hee himmat hai"!!!! All the best to the local hero in 2012 with newly imported Australian suspension!
