    Default Prado Advice

    Dear 4x4 / Prado experts

I m planning to buy Prado TZ 96-00 (5 Door) , which i think i could fetch at less than 2M. I m buying this vehicle for off road mountain adventures. Pl guide me is this 12-15 years old vehicle still reliable, comfortable and tough to take for adventurous trips. What is the major prob in the car and which things should i check before buying one. Also tell me, is this 3000 cc desiel engine 6 cylinder or 4.
Thanks in advance for ur advice.
    Regards
    Asad

In the earlier models you will get a 1KZ and the later ones a 1KD-FTV.
    Both are 3000cc cyl.
The 1KZ is fuel thirsty with a single overhead cam shaft, whereas a 1KD has a double overhead cam shaft.

Toyotas are built to last & there's nothing that can't be fixed or replaced, so don't worry about reliability.

i second armaghan..mitsus are pain in the ____ once they are old(4 Mitsubishi old means 5 to 10 years max)!
Your grandchildren will likely find it incredible - or even sinful - that you burned up a gallon of gasoline to fetch a pack of cigarettes!

well i have travelled from karachi to khunjerab va babusr top on my prado tz 96 auto. With losts of back compression in the engine and it went like dream. No problem at all while climbing babusar top or khunjerab.
Avoid 200~2001 becuase 1KD = Biggest flop of toyota in pakistan.

Avoid pajeo 2800 intercooler because it is the weakest 4x4 ever made (had two of them in past 10 years)

Prado is a good vehicle but the running cost is high. You can get a good TZ Prado from 20 to 22K. But most of the available Prado in market are not so good ones. If you are interested in SURF then i have one. Its a 97 model SSR-X. Its in mint condition and have wooden panel inside it. The engine, suspension and body all are in mint condition. If interested then just let me know.

surf price range = 16~18 for 96 model (very less interior like corolla car and only seats five)

Prado tx-tx ltd rane = 17.5 to 19 lacs (very roomy and can seats five to eight easily)

Fuel economy = almoooooooooosssssssstttttttttt same . Ask any prado or surf owner
    both have same engine.

So it is not wise to buy surf while you could get good tx prado for almost same amount.

i have owned both jeeps. Surf has very tiresome ride when compare to prado. On long runs 500+kms it give a real headache while prado remain plush and quite and you actually feels sitting in a room. Surg gives a lot of bumps and jerks.
