Default Suggestion needed from jeep specialists!

I am in search of a good jeep these days which will be used mainly for trips to northern areas and some mild offroading..i have come across a jeep which is for sale at a workshop in gulberg lahore.
It has an M38 with 2c engine ,free wheeling hubs , ssr five speed gear box etc but it has been converted to long chassis version like the jeeps found in naran kaghan.Body wise it seems to be in top notch condition.
i would like to know that what are the disadvantages of alteration to long chassis....Should i go for it.??? If yes then what should be a fair price for it?

M38s are fine machines if restored properly. Anytime you are making alterations to the frame (chasis) you are weakening it. Things to look for would be, the method used to lengthen the body. Was the frame cut, added and welded to increase the wheel base? or was the body only extended and the frame left intact? or was body extended with support added to the frame without cutting it?

If cutting/re-welding has been done on the frame, I wouldn't go for it. Since it be an off road primary. if the body was only lengthened, It can be brought back to original. So no problem here. BTW, leaving the extended back on will cause sagging of the extension sooner or later. It will help if support to such extension has been added, check the quality of work done. I would bring it back to original. but you can leave it as it in the last case.

Registration and tax papers should be without error for any vehicle you buy. it is mandatory. Goes especially for restored jeeps.

the rig is at a shop so work's already been done on it. the price would be high. if you buy it you are going to bring it to your taste later regardless. The total project cost will increase hence. If you wanna go for an older jeep, my suggestion would be to find a legit frame with ok body and all things. Build it to your likes and requirements. I believe it will cost you less and give u more off road pleasure. it will take a lot of sweat and patience though

    that's just how think anyways..

There are no real disadvantages of lengthening the frame and body as such. Its obviously understood that the job must have been done properly by an expert welder etc. All of the K1 type Jeeps in Naran / Azad Kashmir etc have lengthened bodies and I have never heard of any issues related to extended frames.

The price of a used M38 / K1 Jeep would depend largely on body condition and mechanical status. Here is the thread I started on K1 Jeeps highlighting a newly built green 2010 model which cost around 545k with a B2 engine and all the jazz gizmos you see.:

the jeep was newly painted and the body seemed to be in extremely good condition...they were demanding 450k.....if i build a jeep myself....which one should i go for....i guess nowadays only mutts are available from army auctions....from where i can get one in good price preferably from lahore and for how much?.......and yes how much should i need to spend over it if i change the stock engine and body work and mechanicals......plz give me a rough idea about the total budget needed for thee project........

There are better ppl who can comment on this price. 450k sounds not bad if it is mechanically ok, like running and all. Spend another couple wisely and increase capability and comfort to take you to the northern areas and much off road fun. and maybe the alterations wouldn't bother that much either.

FJ40s, mutts, few CJs or M38s are all available at every auction so far. One just happened on the 28th and 29th July in Lahore with 600 vehicles. Two resellers are on Thokar Niazbeg on the right side before the M2 exit.

There is no end to what you can spend on a project I think 600k including the initial buy at around 280K (including taxes) would be a good strat.

I would recommend talking to Janj. He is the expert, All things Jeep !
