A Rocky 84 in good condition would cost you around 300,000 to 350,000 and a Pajero 84-87 3-door would cost you somewhere in the range of 350,000 to 450,000 depending on the model year and the condition.

You should go for Pajero because there are more of them on the road and so the spare parts will be available much more easily. Plus resale value is much better and it is easier to sell it off compared to a Rocky which is quite rare.

Well Rocky Is a true offroader ,,,, I was having this jeep for the last 7 years with me,,Believe u me its a tough beast once even the CL oil in the axle was dried up and i drove it for 3 consecutive months and after that when i went for a general check up my mechanic told me that how come you are driving this jeep with no oil in there and he inserted 4 guns of oil then it came to the required level,,if you talk about lahore for the maintainence options there are few outlets,,,one is Gujrat Autos located at nila Gumbad,,,and in Bilal Gunj its Mughal Jeep House ,,,, but everything is available though expensive...once it was with me i converted the whole engine to 2LT-Turbo-D,,,,with a land cruiser Gear box a new dash ,,,,seats,,,Front Grill,,,,actually it was a Govt Auctioned one,,,,in the name of DC Lahore,,,,bought it for 174000 PKR but then back in 1997 and then invested somehow 1.25 Lac more to make it comfortable.Have got no hands on experience wid Pajero so far.

    Rocky all the way...

I used to have the daihatsu jeep back in 90's and i have also experienced rocky...

the 2800cc engine is surely a stunner!!! i used to go for hunting where pajeros could only dream for.....

the only drawback i experienced with the daihatsus was of there 4 forward gearbox, u can feel that you badly require the 5th one... however in the models of fourtrack and sportrack, in 90's, the gearbox got replaced with a 5 forward manual transmission...

other than this, believe it or not, i have experienced rocky to be better in so many ways than lc's in the offroading... i am myself a great fan of landcruisers and have had several, and currently a 3door one, but i miss the daihatsu power and clearance when ever i am away for hunting....

depends what you'll use it for??? onroad??? then maybe pajero, as pajeros are better in comfort, but the maintainance is expensive....

offroading, daihatsu all the way which wont let you down , parts are available at pindi and there are specialist mechanics available aswell for the daihatsus...

Also temme which one is better in comfort, resale, availability of parts and durability.. is pajero capable of offroading sumtimes? not in very rugged areas.. i also need to know which one has a better pick n speed! thanks in advance for info..

i think that the pajeros are 5 forward, they are more comfortable for sure, on the road they are alot more practical than the rocky... pajero does do the offroading, however at the xtreme stages, it starts crying and there are places where it would let you down...

whereas the rocky would be a perfect partner for an offroad mission/journey... Like i mentioned above, they are 4 forward and aren't as comfortable as Pajeros.... But then again, rocky can be used for both ,onroad/offroad...

I think, pajero is a quicker machine than the rocky onroad.. with a 5 forward transmission, its clearance is definitely impressive on the road....

I would suggest you to go for a Pajero and if you decide to keep it for long then throw in a 2L-Turbo (2400) or better yet a 3L and your 4x4 troubles would also be solved.

A 2 to 3 year used Potohar will be some 100 time better then these 85-86-88 model old diesels, they will be a pain in the *** as long as you keep them, a humble advise: Go for a Mini Pajero 95-96, it has come down to 3.5 Lacs and will be 100 times better then a khatam 86 model 4x4 !

A Pajero with the 4D56 engine is considered to be one of the most reliable out there, in that price range.

Potohar and the Mini are too underpowered for serious offroading, and are too damn small!
And the Mini Pajero gives about 7-8 kms/litre. Compare that to about 9-10 kms/litre which my 1990 2500cc Pajero gives.
Amongst these two, I think the Potohar is a better choice.
"The rough, hard idle swells up and out from under the car, ricochets off other cars, and rams into the ears of the driver, the spectators. You think twice about a 383 Road Runner, but a hemi only once -- and let it pass."

There isnt any comparision of ROCKY with PAJERO....PAJERO is way better then RICKY..Itz damn comfortable with hydrulic seats etc...Itz much more comfortable then ROCKY...Much more reliable...It has good resale as compared to ROCKY...Parts are also easily avalible....I m having excellent experiance as um having PAJERO 5 Doors with 2800cc INTERCOOLER engine...Man there is great power...But just in one thing ROCKY takes the lead and itz offroading..
....Drive hard oR stay at home....
