" Plagued by oil filter relocation issue I was just not certain if I would be able to race in Cholistan this year. I unfortunately lost my engine in Jhal when the oil filter cracked as the engine mounts caved in and went down after a hard landing resulting in busted engine. Tried various sources but none was something that would appeal to mind. Arrived in Pakistan on Feb 3 and immediately rushed to Nadir bhai’s workshop to take a look at the preparations. Things were slow but moving towards finals. While we were hoping to receive the oil flter relocation kit we received yet another great setback 2 days prior to departure when we came to know that both rear reservoir shocks were damaged. Nothing else could be done and we decided to put in simple KYBs. The filter relocation kit was still on its way (a week has passed already)(it arrived yesterday) and there was no way we could speed that up. Noting the fact that the kit will never arrive we decided to just wrap up the pending tasks and leave for cholistan as it is. We replaced the OEM oil filter with the smallest oil filter available in the market (kia Pride).
During reccee we noted that the rear KYBs would not last first 2 Cps. The quality was just not what I had purchased last year. I guess our spares are now heading to 3 number and 4 number. The front were fox and they were just awesome. The engine performance was as per expectations except for the fear of oil filter bursting. The rear shocks bottoming out was something we had to live with.
We took along spare KYBs so that we can have these changed at the mid break which was succesfully done within 20 mins time given. Special thanks to IJC mid break team.
The race day was tense. Nadir Magsi was to start right behind me. We knew that he would cross us within the first 20 mins which he actually did. He went on the rampage on crossing a total of 13 vehicles. We only managed to stay afloat as the alternator packed up at CP2. The battery indicator light came on and so did the ATF light. This was alarming, and resultantly we further reduced the speed thinking to save the gear from overheating. Later on we found out that ATF light does come on when alternator doesn’t work.
The battery almost died at CP 8 and we were in limp mode till mid break. At Mid break we had the rear shocks replaced, battery swapped from Huxaifa’s Pajero however couldn’t solve mystery of front brakes engaging at every lift off. We were advised by Akif bhai not to use electronics as the battery wasn’nt being charged and if it drains the fuel pump would stop. We needed to finish the rally hence we avoided use horn, lights, windows or electric cooling fan. Alhamdollilah we finished the rally. The timings were worse then my last year however given all the issues we had with the jeep we were still relieved that we finished it without a need to be towed back. Though we were towed : D from Bhawalpur bypass till the city by NN as everything related to electricals died on our return journey.
Woud like to thank my Co-driver Hasan Rana for having the patience to bear my cursing and anger whenever something would go wrong . Honestly I would have exited from the rally before mid break as it was no more competitive for me however he was the one who kept pushing me “Asad bhai step on it daikhe jayagee”. I would also like to thank the entire IJC team for being there for our support at Mid break and elsewhere and making possible what looked impossible. Shall be posting my share of pics shortly. these were taken by Devil Jrs. "
Alhamdolillah we reached home(Islamabad) this morning around 4am.
Everyone is well and did their best on the rally field, the support teams at mid-point, recovery teams, teams at IJC camp site and many loved ones praying back home.... hats off to all.
There were mechanical breakdowns and people not being able to complete the rally and some doing their best and yet not able to be at the podium.... everyone did their best and have learned a lot; they all are winners since we humans are supposed to try and the Almighty does the rest .... "We plan and plan but Allah is the best of planners"
Mid Point Team was really a treat to watch how focused they were
i remember very well seeing all of them running around grabbing stuff and fixing whatever was needed to be done... Huzaifa was completely breathless when they were working on the Pajero; whole team's dedication was simply stunning at mid point
i went around and saw other teams at mid point and non other was as organized as ours in scorching heat.
The whole event really brought out the best of everyone
Some names may have not been mentioned but it was not possible without a single soul not putting in anything to his capacity.
I personally wish to thank everyone for such a wonderful gathering and the lovely time we all spent with IJC family
Proud to be a member of a team blessed with tremendous endurance, cooperation and brotherhood. Such tiring trips are a litmus test of the personalities - hats of to you guys.
I couldn't take my vehicle along due to some mechanical issues at the eleventh hour. Orange's support in recovery was undoubtedly impressive.
And how can I end up my note without appreciating the UJBs (Untiring Jin Brothers) - Imtiaz & Huzaifa whose presence in the team makes a noticeable difference.
Most are unaware of our media team's efforts. Bilal, Ehsan Kiani and Muhammad (Asad's elder son) did the task so religiously and you guys will soon start appreciating their work. However their work might not tell you the story of standing and shooting in scorching sun for the whole day and on the most dusty part of the qualifying track. The work may not tell you the story of kilometers of walking in the hot desert with no water and food along. They indeed deserve a big applause.
Thanks be to Almighty for his blessings on us throughout the trip.
The performance of the managing teams from the start of the trip till the support provided at mid point as well as on the return journey was just too remarkable. It wasnt an easy task to cater for needs of such a big group but I must say that the way it was handled was truly impressive. Double hats off to the entire team.
A wonderful trip. So much learnt. Drivers navigators showed that seriousness which made us proud of being a part of this rally team. Thanks to Zeib and bilal bhai who fed us in the middle of no where. Imtiaz huzaifa n orange deserve a applause for their passion without them i am sure none of the ride would have finished the rally. Kiani brothers hats off for arranging the sponsor n managing the whole team. Proud of u guy as individuals as well as a team.
Well well, Thank you all, am honored & proud to be a part of IJC, i learnt alot last year & this year too... Another wonderful & unforgettable trip, Thank you all for your support too, without you guys i would have not be able to provide support like i did. And yes thanks to zeb bhai & bilal bhai for food, especially the yum yum sewiyan... :-)
Thanks to my brother Imtiaz who supported me taught me throughout the trip.
The rally drivers/navigators we know you did your best, we have been on track we know the track was really tough but you guys did it, you guys have proven yourself...
Thanks to all for appreciating but you all know very well that we all are like a team and I felt my self proud to be a part of this club in which I got ppl which are committed to their tasks. So Hatts off to you guys.So rally participats don't worry we all are your arms and you have to be very proud that you have a such committed team and time will come Inshallah when we all will be on Podium for 1st position.Very well-done team IJC.Hattsoff
It was a great trip enjoyed it to its fullest. Great team work.
Many many thanks to the pit crew, they were very professional and quick. Two thumbs up for imtiaz, Huzaifa, Rizwan bhaee and orhers. Very impressive work guys.
In recovery many many thanks to orange he is absolutely gem of a person, towed my tundra for 50 km plus in deep sand and treacherous terrain despite of his engine over heating n other transmission issues. Many many thanks orange i owe you big times.
Zaib n Bilal bhaee thank you very much for feeding us and taking care of us in the middle of no where. Overall team IJC made our participation a memorable one.
This was my first trip to any rally and I must say that the teamwork was phenomenal. Special mention has to be made of Suhaib bhai for arranging and negociating the sponsorship for not only the rally vehicles but all the participants there in IJC camp. Recovery Team. ... awesome work specially by Orange, Zohaib and Huzaifa/Imtiaz. Pit stop team.. Although I was not there to witness the work but I remember a few people laughing at the idea that Asad bhai's shocks will be changed in 20 mins. Literally.. Great work. Food.. I had the best food ever in this trip. Thank you loads Zeb bhai and Bilal bhai. Rizwan bhai / Salman bhai / Asad bhai always there to manage situations.
All in all every single participant did some work and contributed to the success of the trip. Hats off.
Thank you again
The closeness between the members and a greater number of people in our club each specialising in one thing or the other gives us a great edge over others. Greater things are achieved only with the help of greater teams.
Everyone delivered as promised but Huzaifa and Imtiaz require a special mention here; tons of effort put in by them taking care of everyone. Taking in the bs and still maintaing your calm is an attribute not everyone is blessed with!
Thanks to Zeb and Bilal bhai for the food and the camp arrangments. Thanks to Orange for pullings us out and thanks to all others for their involment in arranging all the logistics and keeping the morale of the team high. Also whoever was involved in whatever way! A big thanks.
Lastly, a big thanks to SK for putting in a great deal of effort to sort out the sponsorship!
Thanks to Shabab bhai, Fahad, Hassan, Yasir, Kashif, Mohsin and the rest of the gang for their high spirits and playing well along the rest of the team.
Thank you Zohaib for being nothing but a ................................; it was much enjoyed! And I am sincerely happy at your achievement. With a ..........car like that it doesn't get any better!
Sooner or later we will get Nadir Magsi.........................
Well well well, what an experience! This trip was a perfect example of sheer determination, passion, hard work, patience and team work.
Me and Huzaifa left for Cholistan on the night of tuesday with some our friends (who were supposed to assist with media team) in two vehicles. We exited M2 at Faisalabad and took the route to Jhang. We were expecting to reach Bahawalpur at 6 in the morning. Unfortunately, at 2 am, we had an accident and our other vehicle (BJ60) had a collision with a mini-truck full of bricks. ALHAMDULILLAH everyone in that vehicle was saved by ALMIGHTY with some bruises here and there. It was a sad night and a cumbersome one. We had to make arrangements for our friends to get back to safety and for the vehicle recovery as well. We started our journey to Cholistan again at 6 am when our friends started their journey to Faisalabad, with heavy hearts. We reached Bahawalpur at 9:30 am and slept until 10 pm and then Mustaghees Sb joined us. We had a lunch at Taj and then left for Cholistan. We witnessed the most beautiful scenery while entering Cholistan as the sun was going down in the background.
When we reached Cholistan, on Wednesday, it was a relief to see the compound Shabab had arranged for IJC. We must appreciate him because that compound (washroom, in particular) served its purpose very well throughout our stay. Shabab was already coming back from the track, as we arrived, and Zuhaib was already back in Bahawalpur. He had already done recce and found out that the exhaust ground clearance was not enough. I must say the amount of hard work, dedication, commitment and motivation Shabab, Ali, Zuhaib and Fahad has shown is really impressive and must be appreciated. They spent good 12 hours alone on Thursday for recce and fine tune their vehicles.
Bilal Bhai and Zeb Bhai we are grateful for your hospitality during our stay. If it wasnt for you guys we wouldnt have had those spicy meals and witty chats and warm teas in cold nights.
Zeb Bhai, i am really sorry for not bringing the cake on your birthday. Rizwan Bhai, Salman, Bilal Bhai asked me to bring cake, but i couldnt find any bakery. I am really sorry and i will try to make it up to you.
Rizwan Bhai, Salman and Saeed Bhai we must appreciate your cooperation throughout the trip but specially at the mid point. We wouldnt have accomplished, what we have, without your support and expert opinion and advice. I remember the night before race day, the only thing that i was concerned about was how to manage the fuel and required people and vehicles and equipment that was meant to be delivered at mid point next very early morning. I dont know about Huzaifa, but i was scared ........... because i was not sure if we would be able to change Asad Bhai's shocks in 20 minutes. But it was done!! All in 20 minutes plus we changed the battery as well. It was a perfect example of coordination, and team work. Thank you everyone, i am sure we couldnt have done it without all the resources at our hand.
Media Team! Bilal Bhai, Muhammad and Ehsan Kiani, you guys are just awesome. Standing in the scorching heat to capture that one moment that will make the Driver's and Navigator's day. I know for a fact that Ehsan walked 4 or 4.5 km into the desert on the track to capture and give DJI Phantom and the Mid Point crew the heads up for the upcoming vehicle. And they didnt have anything to drink or eat while they were doing us a favor.
Shahab-ud-Din and Abdul Wasay were also quite handy at the mid point. Refueling, Tea and water for drivers and navigators and for us as well. Small errands here and there, it was a pleasure to work with them.
At the end i would like to thank TORC team as well. As they provided us with the tea kettle and helped us changing the Pajeros' battery.
Please pardon me, if i have forgotten any names that i failed to mention.
It was an awesome experience that i am sure i will never forget. Thank you all! Looking forward to our next endeavor!
