Imporatant thing regarding car A/C

well today after a long time i went to get my car(corolla 2004) ac serviced ............ there were few things the guy mentioned and i will like to share them with you cause they were new for me..

i went to PUNJAB AC in lahore the guy took off the glove box and started washing the innner part (the thing which is present inside dash board (sorry i donot know the name condensor or evaporator) ) any ways in my previous car corolla they used to take it off and wash it out side ....he told me to do so he will have to take whole dash board off..................... any ways i said ok then the guy told me and also showed me a tray which was ment to hold a filter but there was no filter in it.... according to ac guy this tray should have filter which can be cleaned periodically at home and there will be no need of washing the inner part of ac....... he told me that all new cars made in pakistan namely civic and corolla have this filter tray but filter is missing in new car same was case of my car.. the price of filter according to him is 1500 ...... i got it installed in my car. i donot know why it is not there in first place . i was told that all japanese cars have it installed in them. have any of u guys come across this.........

number two the ac guy also said that there is another filter (on engine side ) thats should be changed after 30000 km.... well i did not get that changed( my bill was getting too much ) .......................

so any of u guys know about these two filters? and what are average a/c service charges in lahore

OH.... that's strange to know.... my civic has also two tray type things and the filter was missing in them as well.... i couldn't get the filter and the amazing thing is Honda North (Peshawar) doesn't know what the hell is this thing :S..... Well i installed custom made filter from home window AC :D, its working good and after every 2 weeks, it catches remarkable dust and even dry leaves.....

Doesn't know the filter on engine side regarding AC...... the filters i know are oil filter and air filter only......

The cost of good service here in Peshawar is Rs. 500/-

He might be talking about the receiver/dryer, as some people call it filter also.

you are right he was referring to this part mentioned as receiver dryer he said it should be changed at 30000km

good idea your idea is right i will do it also cause what he has given me is also some paper it does not seem to be some thing that should cost 1500. i was shown two trays it seems all cars are missing it i guesss when we buy new car we should get this inner filter installed.

any one having new corolla get it checked and do let us know wheather filter is there or not ..

Ok car's home, ul get the pics after 10min or so

Open the passenger side door :P

Open the Glove box

Watch for the clip at rear corners of the glove box, push them inside and get the glove box free from the dashboard

Remove that white protective/locker strip of the cabin filters

Pull out the 1st filter

Slide the 2nd filter to right and pull it out as well

Now both are out, i was amazed to see the condition as i cleaned them 4 days back....

Trays without home made filters :D

I made these filter from the Home window AC filter. Cutting them exactly to the width of a tray and length as twice as of the tray... Putting it in after folding length wise

Tighten and secure the filter, pressing by screw driver so that the exhuast beneath them won't suck them

Fit them back, close the glove box and don't forget to collect the item fallen out of the glove box :D

dear which car do u hv, nice to see tht u hv cabin filter , meri spectra me cabin filter nhi mene khud lagaya hai aur cooling coil clean ki but bahar nhi nikali aur gas bhi kharij nhi ki heres the link

i saw that thread and the ac guy also cleaned my evaporator without opening it... but surprising point was why filter was not placed in car at first place . And are new also with out it?

ya im thinkin too y there isnt any filter in new cars, it shud b,
but i clean my evsporator after 8 years and now put a hand made filter too

Sir,that AC guy just made a huge bill & nothing else,thats wat I can conclude from your scenario

There must be some reason why two manufacturers not giving filters,there must be...

Your mechanic was rights the Pakistani corolla doesn't come with a filter, i got mine checked last year and the Toyota garden mechanic told me the same and quoted the same price i.e. 1500, but i guess you got ripped off for the service i believe 2000 is too high. I would recommend Kashmir car A/C its just opposite the hall road on the MALL road

yea sure he made lot of money...... but i have it discussed it here to find out reason why its not there :). it makes sense to have it specially in cars in which its hard to take evaporator out for cleaning ..may be there is reason for not having it there cause if there is then i should remove my filter

My Corolla 2005's AC working superb MashaAllah & my ride has done approx. 96500 KMs,should I go for service or leave it as it is?

We didnt get Ash tray and Trunk light in the new City AT........................what's the reason?????????????? kuch nai sirf aur sirf paise bachana target hai hamare manufacturers ka.............................imagine no trunk light in the car which costed about 1.5 million............
