Default Why wheels in Pakistan are not automatic

Are Pakistani allergic to automatic gear or what? i mean if you go in Australia to Europe and America there you can find 60s models in automatic gear but in Pakistan up till 90s all are manuals... what was the technical reason behind that or was it just jahalat? Or was it way to prevent women drivers?

Manuals are cheaper to manufacture. They are simpler and robust compared to automatics; maintenance is easier and cheaper.
Many people still prefer manuals to automatics, myself included.

automatics were considered a luxury and then had additional taxes too (I remember seeing such entries in customs - it even had entries of seat belts and tacho meter as luxuries)

1- cheaper and easy to maintain .. especially local mechanics can easily understand it
    2- good fuel economy
    3- doesn't require much care

Default Why wheels in Pakistan are not automatic

In uk most cars are manual than automatic, but it changes in luxury market, where most are automatic.personally I like manual cars because to me auto are just boring.in Pakistan I think maintainable is main issue and obviously automatics are little bit expensive as well.

This was the reason my Mother told me Twenty years ago even. Having Lived abroad Myself, i was Surprised to see the rarity ov autos so mum told me because Mechanics couldn't Handle them and owners never Knew anything either, such were considered to be hopeless. In fact, a car with auto Tranny had Lesser resale. However, I've seen the Trend Change since 2000. First automatic Civics and then Corollas. Now we see more of them in the top ov the Line Models at least.

When traffic was less, manual was ok. Now traffic is high, so automatic is must.

As for maintenance, I never came across any gear problems in my whole 25+ years of driving various manual and automatic cars. And trust me, I've driven a lot and used a lot many of cars. So maintenance of auto tranny might be true of very rough or very old used cars but not for regular family cars.

Oh, I also remember, auto tranny cars were considered only for disable people back in 80's and 90's who couldn't change manual gears or clutch.

Driving an automatic car is no fun at all. Manual transmission preserves the entire essence of driving.
