Now is the time to make plans to visit. Contact a reputable tour operator for tents and service staff. Take a flight to Skardu, then hire a jeep from the airport, and drive there. Its a good idea to spend one night at the halfway point, that is to acclimatise yourself to the height. I know of people who went directly from Skardu to the plains, and suffered from altitude sickness. Once you get there, you will have problems sleeping, and walking any distance is a strenous activity! Not a place for smokers! Deosai is above the tree line so no vegetation above a height of three or four inches, but the colours and diversity make the trip worth it!
You will see a lot of prairie dogs too, brown and gold in colour, cute animals. The locals eat them.
