Xtreme Autocross Championship 2011: Shamyl Khuhro simply unstoppable in round three
KARACHI, June 1: Shamyl Khuhro emerged from the shadow of racing wizard Nadir Magsi to register the fastest time in the B-prepared category in round three of the Xtreme Autocross Championship 2011 which turned out to be a spectacle for the motor-racing fans here at Clifton.
Displaying superb control and panache in his beautiful Mazda RX 7, Shamyl overcame the hot and humid conditions and a tough opposition to clinch the race in style.
This was the 3rd consecutive victory for Shamyl Khuhro in the B-Prepared category and with this victory, he has enhanced his chances of defeating the winner of the previous two championships, Nadir Magsi.
No less than forty drivers in seven different categories participated in round three of the Xtreme Autocross Championship which is in its 3rd year now.
The race flagged off at 8:45pm with C-Stock starting the line-up. This category was hotly contested with Jam Kamal tipped as favourite as usual. But newcomer Rohail Shahjani had other plans up his sleeve and, driving a 1.3 Toyota Corolla, stunned Jam to win the race in the tough category.
The B-Stock category saw nine drivers competing for the trophy. Mansoor Halim, the 2010 champion, once again dominated the race in his 1.6 Honda Civic to enthrall the vocal crowd.
In the A-Stock category no driver has been able to stretch Khwaja Ahad, who has been unbeatable since he switched to this category.
The Prepared categories have seen drivers greatly modifiying their cars. The D-Prepared category was a Honda Beat championship on its own with all 4 drivers driving Honda Beats. Ghazanfar Agha drove magnificently to remain undefeated in this category with other drivers not able to pose any threat to him.
The C-Prepared category saw the closest competition for the trophy. Usually, it has been famous for the road battle between Imam Ali Shah and Mukesh Chawla, but in this round Azim Bhurguri surprised everyone by leading till the penultimate round before Mukesh Chawla, as skilful as ever in his impressive red Toyota MRS, posted sensational time to clinch the trophy. The win also secured Mukesh’s championship position on the points table.
The competition in the A-Prepared category was intense with competitors trying to outdo each other with wheel muscle.
In the end, it was the finesse of Zaheer Hussain Shah which saw him crusinig to victory in his Mercedes.
