The Chevrolet Corvette has to be the most exhilarating car to have come off the General Motors production lines in the company's history and the 2008 model is all set to make a powerful entrance at the 9th Middle East International Motor Show.
More engine means more power, and that is what the Corvette nameplate is all about: sheer, unadulterated performance for those passionate about driving.
The award winning 'muscle car', 2008 Corvette to be revealed at the Dubai Motorshow 2007.
The 'Vette has never been a stranger to scintillating performance, but with the 2008 edition's LS3 powerplant upgrade to 6.2-litres, it's the most powerful yet, except for the super Corvette Z06. The Chevrolet range has traditionally offered advanced automotive technology at affordable prices, and the new Corvette showcases the lengths Chevrolet has gone to in order to maintain the model's lead in innovation.
When a high-performance car boasts so much power, it is important that the handling match its capabilities, and that's what the Corvette does best. With improvements to the car's suspension settings and steering, the 2008 edition really does make for assured driving while sustaining the pleasure for which the 'Vette is rightly revered.
The six-speed manual gearbox is upgraded, and gains the Clutch Apply Sensor Switch to make shifts even faster and more precise. For the paddle -shift six speed automatic model, improvements have been made to the paddles, while the optional 2.73 performance axle really enhances performance through the gears.
The engine is where the mystique of the Corvette lies, and the 2008 edition's powerplant is larger than that in the previous model's 6.0 litres and, in true 'Vette style, it packs a real punch. Figures of 430 brake horsepower and 572 N-m of torque are up by 30 bhp and 30 N-m respectively, while the updated model's top speed and acceleration figures are improved significantly. With numbers like this, the Corvette could prove a real handful, but generations of drivers will testify that GM's advanced technology makes it perfectly accessible for everyone.
The exterior, too, has been updated, with the eye-catching Atomic Orange paint option changed from metallic tintcoat to premium metallic, while Crystal Claret and Blue Stream tintcoat are two new colours available on all models. Also, the two wheel styles now come with painted and polished, or chrome-effect, finishes.
Also new is a keyless entry fob with integrated key to reveal the upgraded interior. The cabin is appointed with leather-led luxury that, along with the Corvette's performance, belies the affordable price tag. A new steering wheel fits in perfectly alongside the swathes of lush leather. In fact, leather-wrapped areas of the cockpit include the door trim, the front floor console, steering wheel and seats, which have a new design and cut. Also available are the two unique interior trim combinations of Ebony with Very Light Linen, and Ebony with Brick.
New sills with metal finish adorn the doors and there are brushed aluminium accents throughout the interior. There are also bright trim surrounds for the gear shifter and cup holders. Meanwhile, the stereo now comes with audio input jacks for use with MP3 players, and the system comes with a six-disc in-dash auto-changer.
In early 2007, 'Middle East Car' magazine chose the Corvette as the 'Best MuscleCar', emphasizing that the Corvette is a living example of high performance American cars. This praise is not limited to Middle East Car; the Corvette has since won numerous awards and nominations from all over the world.
