Question Which engine oil to use in Honda CG 125 (euro 2)?

    Hello Pakwheelers,

5 months ago i bought a Honda 125. This is the first bike i have ever had, now it has clocked 3600 kilometers. As winter has started here in Lahore and an oil change is due too, I want your advice. Which oil to use?

The first 2400 kms Honda 20w-40 was used, at 2400kms i tried Caltex Havoline 20w-50 that too on mechanics request.
The difference I found in caltex and honda is not much, just that when caltex was added and the clutch is released a noise comes which the mechanic told me is of a slipping clutch.

Now the oil change is due and I am not satisfied with Caltex, as it is winters here I was to an oil with a lesser viscosity as to help in cold starting. The manual of the bike says I can use till 10w-30 in this temperature but which oil to use.

I have read the Motorcycle Engine oil forum and there all are appreciating Liqui Moly 4t 20w-50 but the problem is still here, this oil is thick too.

I have attached a scanned copy of my bike's manual, please go through it.

Please help me decide which oil to use. Thanks in advance

NO WHERE does it say that these engines should only be used with Mineral Oil and that Synthetic is bad.

HondaCG125 Awardspace has A LOT of useful & valueable info regarding general questions and some technical as well.

There are many myths regarding engine oils and this one "shouldn't use fully synthetic on old engines" is also one of them. Atleast there won't be any problem in CG125, as long as its meant for Bikes.
that topic is alot about information + marketing kf the product. I read that topic till the point where he wrote the 5w means the oil is thin. I think this gentlman seriously lacking to inderstand the viscosity of the oil and its relation with temperature.

Look. If the manufacturer recommends to use 10/40. Then we can use
    10/40
    15/40
    15/50
    20/50

    these oils will work fine.

But if we will use less thinner oils like
    0/30
    0/40
    5/30
    5/20
etc. The engine will still work. But it will not perform well because we are going against manufacturer's recommendations.

However, if use 5/40 oil, then it will be pretty acceptable. But important is that 5/40 oil is fully synthetic and comes with api sn grade which is again not recommended for bikes.
So make sure that 5/40 should be old grade like sg, sj, sl, then its fine.

ahmad40, also dont worry much about the temperatures. It almost does no affect on bikes unless we are.living on k2.
