It is not usually that a car starts skidding the moment you pedel the brakes. sometimes, it is the road surface, due to some loose metalstone the vehicle could start skidding while braking hard. Sometimes there is not enough rubber on the tyres due to wear and tear.
All an ABS could do is to release hard braking pressure for nano seconds to make the tyres regain grip over the road surface. But in your case, as it seems, you applied sudden braking as your car approched the speed breaker all of sudden. Even an ABS could not make the car stop in such a condition.
Indeed, with an ABS the car would perform better, but what about the inflated cost ?Then why not think about going for an upper segment car ?
