Thread: Santro Plus Not Going above 100km/h After Engine Overhaul

    Default Santro Plus Not Going above 100km/h After Engine Overhaul

    Dear Pakwheelers
    I have recently overhauled my Santro plus 2001 engine with the best quality parts available in the market. The reason for overhaul was due to the weak piston and rings condition, oil was rigging out of the ring seal so it was necessary to do the overhaul. I spend 30k + on the overhaul and overhauling was done by a Santro expert mechanic. Before the overhaul the car was running fine on petrol and it could easily go above 120km/h with AC, but on CNG it was having Santro's generic backfire problem.

    Now after completing the initial running of 3000 km on Petrol. Whenever I try to take the car above 100 km/h it just stays there and nothing happens. Initially i thought the problem is with the CNG settings, but the problem is same with the petrol also. Accerelation is fine, but whenever the speedometer touches 95km/h to 100km/h, the car does not take more speed, no matter how hard you try. I have also checked the fuel pump, plugs, cables and done the tapet cover adjustment but the problem is still there. Kindly tell me what is the problem and how to resolve it ? My mechanic has even replaced the ECU with another Santro's ECU but the problem couldnt be resolved. Please help me.

    ECU swapped with another ECU and yet problem exist.. and you believe he is an expert?

    with oil seep from ring seals and the &&%ee453f$$&EU&oD EXPERT overhauled the engine... well ! - may be later am RED HOT at he moment to type further
    - please post history of your car as per my signature line and let others offer input

    Before the engine overhaul, oil was leaking from the rings and was falling on the plugs. So, the car was doing misfire very frequently on CNG, it was almost impossible to drive it on CNG with AC. So, the mechanic suggested to change the rings as well as the piston, as the car had already travel 90k kms. The %$^%$%$&%$&%$ Expert is so called known as expert because he has already overhauled more than 100 Santro's engines and they are running smoothly. He was previously working with the Deewan Jailroad workshop.
    Now tell me what to do ? or suggest me any good mechanic in Lahore ?

    90000km is not a big deal if lubricants & filters are changed at decent intervals - 5000 - 7000 k. I guess - you are running your car on plain water without a thermostat valve and cooling fans running direct. ?? I wish & hope am wrong.

    In case my guess is right. 1st get thermostat valve in place, flush the cooling system and replace plain water with 50+50 combination of coolant & bottled water, rewire the cooling fans to work on automatic.

    later you need to visit some shop having an scanner and get the ignition adjusted for the timings & MAP/MAF sensors cleaning. some other Sentro user and a PW member in Lahore will be able to help as well.

    You are partially right, I dont know about the thermostat valve but the fan is direct. But what is the correlation between the car's cooling system and its speed. I have never faced ever heating issues with or without AC. The temperature guage always stays there between cold to 1/4 hot. What does thermostat valve do ? tell me how to locate it in my car.     these people cannot overhaul engines
    neither do we have good machinist or parts

    check the engine compression. i am sure its screwed
    Life is short and very unpredictable just like a Quarter mile .....

    If you have direct fan probably thermostat valve is missing.Nobody is smarter that manufacturer of your car,are you or your favourite mechanic?

    GO to Sun Tech near Pecco More i.e. Near Toyota Township. Explain them everything from beginning. They are experts in EFI Cars. I got my Santro overhauled in 2008 from them and it is running awesome now. Not a Single Problem till date

    compression test Magic Motors model town a block they are very good with EFI Cars

    my santro has done 140k km and still engine is as healthy as new,throws water from exhaust and only half of litter oil is reduced after 5000 km of oil change,its on cng

    get the car checked from hyundai dealers they will diagnose its sensor computrized

    So guys can I conclude that the speed problem is due to the wrong engine compression and I need to do perform that test from any good EFI center. What would be its charges and what needs to be done to maintain the correct engine compression ratio ?

    This step must have done before opening your engine, which tells u whether u need overhaul or not. now check other things mentioned by capsat.

    Only these possibilities come to my mind (if u r not getting any engine check light) :

    .. Problem with clutch/pressure plate
    .. Chocked fuel or air supply
    .. Improper engine overhauling causing in-corrent compression BUT this would be accompanied by other symptoms like over-heating or knocking, abnormal sounds, etc .. even any of these

    Engine check light is not ON, and I have also installed new clutch/pressure plate. By the way the clutch and pressure plate has nothing to do with the speed especially after 60 km/h. Apart from not gaining speed after 100km/h, all the engines sounds are perfect and there are no issues regarding overheating or knocking.

    Why is the engine check light on? scan it and post here.

    from experience with santros - the map sensor gets fouled with intake manifold mud. This can cause the car to run badly and even foul spark plugs as the ECU does not see correct MAP input. This sensor also is the intake air temperature sensor, that gets fouled too and causes headaches.
