Theres nothing as effective as an ABS system, threshold braking is a bluff!
Yes u can stop a car in a short distance using threshold braking where the conditions are ideal... but not in actual circumstances!
ABS provides independent braking pressures at all tires, calculating the amount of traction ur getting from the road and thus provides an efficient and effective stopping distance with steering.
Actual conditions where threshold braking **** goes wrong! :
Road under ur car is dusty from one side, and totally clean from other side(In Pak, all the roads are dirty + dusty near foot path side and clean from the middle section and high speed lane section) as fast traffic push this dust into the slow speed lane with air.
Thus when one side of ur car is on clean grippy road and other side on dusty side if u brake hard, the dusty side locks up and ur car skids toards the higher gripping side!
If u brake softly to avoid lock up u compromise on stopping distance and stop too late!
So whenever there is difference in traction available to one side of car to the other its very likely u wud under brake or lock up while trying to do ur so called threshold braking!
ABS however wud apply more braking power to the side with more traction and lower braking pressure to the one with less traction = good braking power + steering possible!
However all non Abs equipped ppl shud must learn Threshold braking.. but theres nothing nxt to abilities of ABS
