Sir the engine used in VTI was a 1.6L D16w9 with a 3 stage VTEC and not a VTEC E like D15Z series or the 12/16v L15 VTEC of Steermatic which are for fuel economy.

EXI has a non VTEC 1.5L D15y7engine which is optimized for low end bottom torque (3000-4000 RPM) for City driving and it is more fuel efficient in real world.

    Regards
If you are talking about the 7th gen then its D15y3.
    Not D15y7.

that civic 97 is still available(its of our family friend, not on sale in market),after selling my coure i was looking for city 99-02 shape as my second car,its market was more than i expected..i thought why not to go for civic 96-2000,now that car is exi,n thats my prob, else= its awesome, total genuine paint etc etc..

1)plz pole ur experience on accellaration ,if vti is 16/16 then exi is 15/16 (same proportion 1500cc,1600cc) or is the diff more, like exi is 13/16,as bango said??
(i will apriciate comments from people who have DRIVEN both, else r also welcomed )

2)is there any other diff apart from vti engine n ABS?it has bigger tyres?more diff?

    3)economy? petrol?cng? is it like 80km for vti n 90km for exi?or else? (in a full cylinder)

Sir there is a day night difference in performance of EXI & VTI, just like there is a difference in EXI and XLI, especially on petrol, the 96 VTI also had 4 wheel disc brakes and alloys, in 99 Honda also introduced the UG (leather trim) and Oriel (Sunroof), suspensions and steering is the same, maybe minor equipment difference.

My director's 96 VTI A/T 99K Petrol Honda South maintained beats my colleagues 05 EXI manual every time.

But buy the one which is in good shape, a badly maintained VTI is far inferior then a good EXI.

If you will keep a gentle foot VTI can be more economical but if you will floor the throttle it will give you not more then 75km with A/C.

Usually people drive VTI more spiritedly.

I have a 2000 vti and my neighbour has 98 exi. There is noticeable difference in pick up and he was complaining about brakes, don't know personally as I haven't driven it myself. If driven really gently, my car gives really good mileage. There is a difference between reaching 90kph in a minute and a little more. It makes a difference of about 30 kms in mileage. As you must know there are 4 indicator bulbs in the CNG indicator and the last (5th) is for reserve. Today the 3rd indicator bulb went off after 112 kms so I still have around 50-55 kilometres more to go and this was with some stops at some places where I had to wait for some time along with AC switched on. Half of the road I drove for the past two days (have been going there for some errand) was a really bad road and it was a total stop and go situation with mostly in the first 2 and sometimes the 3rd gear. Now I have exactly given you the figures that you needed I think . Generally driving, I easily get more than 130 kilometres and if I floor it continuously, 100 kms are achievable. There is also noticeable difference after it crosses 5,500 rpm and vtec engages (I know its SOHC vtec yet it has quite some effect).

Definitely 13/16, all things equal, but I have seem VTI performing worse then EXIs if bad in shape.

Mileage ka difference itna nahi hai, same hogi. In fact, more powerful engines do better as when driven in an easy manner, they need to exert lesser force in order to reach and maintain a certain speed. If its not an eagle eye, I think one should not get the EXI (provided he has money to get vti).

3-stage VTEC employs 12 valve economy mode (1st stage) + normal 16 valve non-vetc mode (2nd) + aggressive(ish) vtec mode (3rd stage) - for better fuel saving under certain (3000ish) rpms and peak performance at the top end.

7th gen, 2001-06, Civic came with 3 'stage' vtec (or double vtec either way you like). Earlier models were single vtec (2nd + 3rd stage) with mild economy cam.

@F1 Bro if you're referring 7th gen as 2000 model, I'm afraid you're wrong. 6th gen has much better road grip, less body-roll and far far less understeer- thanks to its better chassis, better weight distribution, superior suspension, lower roof line; the center of gravity and drag thingie, lesser ground clearance, better engine-chassis mating and all + its more nippy than 7th gen.
