Smile Shifting to Mercedes. Is it feasible?

    Dear Members,

I need your Help. I have recently sold off my Reborn and now planning on buying a Merc. I have 2 options available, One is 1998 C240 Elegance and the other is 1988 300SEL 126, with an engine SWAP of 1999 S320. Pls suggest is it recommended to move to a German Car and what will be the maintenance Cost and daily operational cost.

If yes for Merc which one to Buy from the above 2 options.
Pls respond ASAP as I need to take the decision in a Day or Two.

    Regards,

    Regards,
the C240 will have ample grunt and is a wonderful car. do note that the harmonic balancer will need to have been changed in the engine as all 1998 models had faulty ones.

just curious, is the block a V6 or inline 6 in the W126? M104 or another engine?

a well maintained merc will cost you the same as running a civic as they don't tend to go wrong, but a poorly kept one will fail all the time. sadly most mercs are a total loss in PK and people only sell them when they start breaking down or get too expensive to hang on to.

    my suggestion is the C240.

you can order a new harmonic balancer from any benz dealer. shahnawaz will NOT replace it free even though there was a factory recall for ALL 1998 mercs with the M112 engine (FOC replacement).

most people don't know about this and they find out when the balancer tears itself apart quite dramatically.

total time to change is a few hours max. easy job for any qualified MB mechanic.

i'd still go for the C240.

Shifting to Mercedes. Is it feasible?

    No.

    From a 2006+ Model Honda to a 1988 or 1998 Mercedes, i won't even take a 2000 model,
that's how it is all around the world, its only Pakistan where people pay over a Million rupees for a $3,000 - 4,000 car.

If you want to live your life happily you should stick to a fresh Honda or Toyota and if you are bored of them, try Mitsubishi or Nissan

have u ever kept a mercedes before ?

i would only recommend people with merc history to stay with them

for new owners in pakistan, i would emphasize to use a merc as a second car initially and then
when u get familiar with the mechanics, parts dealers and performance etc and if the costs suit u........ then shift on benz

ppl saying that mercs are exactly the same on everything as far as maintenance is concerned are not true and practical to an extent

mercs can be a lil expensive to keep, they are reliable as we know but as i love mercs, i wont mind spending a lil more for luxury and drive pleasure

there are incompetent mechanics in our country for modern mercs specially, the c240 would also need ur own special attention in case of any engine, fuel inlet, air inlet, AC, climate control, SRS Airbags or a sensor malfunctions
not to worry abt simple electrical/mechanical faults

a swapped 126 is not a good option for u

Go for C240 i.e I6 2.6Liter. Or an original 500/300SEL 1990/1991. Both cars are great. Never drove C240 though but driven W202 C180/230Kompressor/280. Parts are easily available. Maintenance is easy. Many workshops providing now services. Do check Service History before buying any of them. At the end it's all your choice.

if u are looking for luxury and r willing to pay a little more for it (in terms of time/cost), then w126 would be my recommendation. The C class to me gives the feeling of a civic/corolla.

Regarding the maintenance, be ready for some initial trips to the workshop. The alternator and sulf gave up on my w124 within 3 months of the purchase.

These parts were of the same price as that of my civic 2002 vti but the handling, braking and comfort can't be compared.

    Hope this helps

    Regards
    Taimoor

Buy a Slightly used Honda City and you'll be more than happy with a Mercedes having some issues. Note that the first option that is 1998 C240 Elegance and is already 13 years old and cars usually start signs of Detroiting after 5 years no matter how good you are willing to maintain it after all its a machine and its bound to show signs.
