Dear all,

I am looking to buy a brand new Swift Auto. However, I have a serious concern that was raised after I was looking at its specs sheet, and that's made me rethink my decision. The issue is that the specs sheet details that Swift Auto only runs on Hi-Octane and NOT on regular unleaded petrol.

I contacted a few different dealers and they all gave me different answers.

Can anyone please confirm?

Strange ... Swift isnt a sports car which needs a high-octane fuel,some %age is used with the unleaded petrol to keep the engine perform better.

Even Honda recomends to use Hi-Octance for City and Civic due to milawat in our so called "Unleaded Petrol" Or else the car knocks, but a 10:30 ratio of Hi-Octance and Super does fine.

Like Chinyoti said, City, Civic, Corrolla, Lancer, all say they need Hi-Octane fuel. Will Swift work on Regular, off-course it will!

Yes that's what I asked the dealer as well. However he was adamant that Suzuki has instructed them to only pour Hi-Octane in the tank of Swift Auto when it is transported from the off-loading docks to the showroom. :S

I'm really confused about this now. In the brochure Swift DX/DLX are mentioned under a separate heading of 'Regular fuel' and Swift Auto is mentioned under a separate heading of 'Hi-Octane'. Seriously considering dropping Swift Auto and buying a DLX instead. Cannot afford to have a blown/ceased engine on a brand new car if this bit of information is actually true.

The automatic transmission of the m13a is at maximum only 2004 technology, i.e 8 years old, I doubt if such issue's are there. I have yet to see the brochere of Swift, or personaly see it so cant comment. Let others comment too.

I guess even the m16a Liana even didnt had these issues,

Don't understand we buy petrol from international market on international prices then why can't we get proper octane ratings that do not ruin our engines. No consumer voice in Pakistan.

We do not buy petrol from international market, instead we import crude which is refined here. So it is totally dependent on refining.

Yes totally agreed. Yahan par to medicines tak jali farokht kartay hain yeh so called musalman. Thats why i always try to get the medicines manufactured by jews / christians.

Recommended fuel depends on engine or gearbox? :S

Please take a test drive of the car before spending money, i am happy that i took the test drive and it made me changed my mind, i found the car to be highly under powered and sluggish on auto transmission, the manual variant is way way better. I have been driving auto's and manuals for long time and used to aggressive down shifting on auto stick, I didn't liked the transmission at all, My 03 Vitz, 00 Vti Oriel, 03 Allion all had/have much more responsive transmission and used to down shift as and when required.

I would advise against getting the automatic swift. DLX is much better. It is always recommended in the brochures and all to use Hi-Octane for a number of reasons - legal being one of them. As per the north american standards, our "Super" is supposed to be equivalent to "87" and Hi Octane should be "89". However, our "Hi-Octane" is equivalent to their "87" in the real sense.
It also depends on the petrol station - but generally a good 50-50 ratio for the first couple of thousand KMs and then switching back to 1:3 ratio of Hi-Octane and Super would do fine.
I have owned a DLX and a Civic and I do the same on both the cars. 1:3 Hi-Oct to Super. Works perfectly. Haven't had any issues. In fact it keeps the engine smoother and softer.

They say such things to avoid legal issues and whatever goes wrong related to engine, they wills ay it is because of fuel. So they have to say such things. Same way as buyers worry about resale before even buying the car. Seller also safeguards themselves by such tactics.
