Following are my comments regarding the program. I would appreciate if you can comment on the program or on my comments.
Firstly let me give you a background on myself. I have lived in england for 3 years and now live in pakistan. I have lived and seen london as well. And I think I know how the things, which are so much projected here, look like in real life over there. I also consider myself as a research brain means that I dont think much but when i do, i think deep. Enough for my introduction.
First of all, I knew before hand that Aliya Salahuddin has been working in UK for quite sometime now, So when I saw the promo, I thought, What does she mean that "If she will leave Pakistan" when she has already left it. Would it be a try to convince Pakistanis to not to think of England as part a heaven ,as it is projected ( which its really isnt), but that I thought would backfire since the producer already lives and work there herself.
I have tried to watch the last 2 episodes of the program but I get strange feeling watching it, so I am forced to switch channel. First of all, I fail to get the motive/deliverable of the program?. What is Aliya tryin to deliver??..It seems to me like its a documentary on Aliya, told by Aliya , which is very self-centered approach. Next thing which bothers me is, It looks like its a travel journal of London for Pakistanis. Throughout the episodes, she goes around london, visiting important places and talking to people. For a person who looks at the program without Watching it, it certainly seems like a travel journal. Third point is, What she talks about. Her thoughts are too complex for people who are watching it. She talks about cultural differences and how attitudes over there differs from people over here. Then she talks to people living ovber there, who have nothing but praises of UK.( She has even talked to goras about the history of British Empire and East India Company). Also her thoughts mention things that only seems problem faced by women??. I fail to understand, what she is trying to accomplish through this program ??. Does it serves as an introduction to England for Pakistanis??. Is it trying to portray that everything is OK in UK and everything is bad in Pakistan??. I also cant figure out who are the intended viewers of the program.??. Is it Pakistanis living in PAkistan, Pakistanis living in UK or British-Pakistanis. The program seems to be very confusing about this. If it is intended for Pakistanis in Pakistan, how many people do you think would understand this program when they either return from work or get free from doing their house chores. I certainly doubt that they would have any brains left in them to understand such a thought provoking program, and then it would only serve as a sight seeing movie of london and listening to it projects a positive image of UK. Lastly, I have serious objections on her wearing skin tights jeans and shirts showing her curves. I am not saying that she should have wore SHALWAR KAMEEZ, but there are other neutral ways of wearing as well. And even if she enjoys all the freedom that she has in UK, I think this issued should have been addressed before airing in Pakistan. We in Pakistan, though live in a conservative society going toward liberalisation, but we do have our limits on things just like any other country in the world, and It is important for us to realise that we cant loose our traditions and culture to foriegn invasion ( This fact is not just for us, Even developed countries try hard to protect their heritage and traditions). I have alot more to say. But I will stop here. Please do mention your thoughts as I will be happy to listen to what you guys have to say, but do keep it temper and allegation free plus keep it logical.
Thank You.
