Hi all
hash4u: the first fatal mistake we make in dealing with the govt is in presuming that they're reasonable people.
adeelhanif86: potohar region customers were underpaying for the quality of gas they were receiving. this deficit was being made up by overpayment in other regions. this change makes the prices fairer (in relative terms) across the board.
speedster101: the fabric of pakistan today consists of multiple power groups fighting turf battles over our resources. party politics is a symptom of the disease, not a cause. as far as i can tell, all major parties have looted, are looting and will loot in the future.
kaidronzer: the cng association is not a part of the govt machinery. it is an advisory body which tries to solve problems for this industry segment (and by extension, for the consumers of automotive cng)
hassan27: the GCV (consider it a measure of how much energy will be released when it is consumed) is not controlled by cng stations. gcv varies by the source from which the gas originates (gas fields and gas wells)
speedster101: the pm promised to end gas loadshedding for cng stations on march 15th. since that time the secretary of the petroleum ministry has stated that the loadshedding will continue to june (probably including june, considering the poor usage of english by most people in pakistan).
ashfaq87: no shortage (system-wide) of gas. shortage is only due to unfair apportionment of gas across industries. example: engro fertilizer was not entitled to receive gas from sngpl during the months of dec, jan & feb (per their contract with sngpl). but, they received gas for about 20 days before the courts took notice and forced them to shut down. their daily consumption is 100 mmcfd. the daily consumption of all cng stations in punjab is 180 mmcfd. now do you understand the scale of the problem when a few large industrial consumers get gas dishonestly?
all: in brief, we're getting screwed over by the owners of large industrial units (mostly in the textile sector) because they want gas to fire their electricity generators. their financial feasibilities were calculated on the basis of furnace oil running their generators but since the price of furnace oil has run up (it now costs about 3X more than gas) the greed of the big industrial businesses has kicked in and they're stealing gas from other industry segments (that means you and me). their bleating about earning huge amounts of foreign exchange are half-truths at best; they're earning for themselves, not for you and i. and, the amount they earn in foreign exchange doesn't match the amount of foreign exchange saved by not having to import petrol for our nation.
let's simplify: we will continue to get reamed out thoroughly by the corrupt.
full disclosure: i consult for the automotive cng industry. ask me anything.
regards,
v
