Hi... Looking for advise on a few issues regarding import of a Toyota Yaris 1.3 VVTi T3 2005 model from the UK. I am planning to send the vehicle out to my family in Pakistan, Lahore. They relocated from the UK last year and are finding life very difficult without a car, especially my father who is disabled and confined to a wheelchair. Questions I need answering plse:
(1) If the car develops any mechanical problems or they need spare parts will this be a problem? Will the parts have to be sent from the UK?
(2) The car does not come with standard air con. Will it be possible to get air conditioning installed in Pakistan for this car? Approximately how much would it cost? My local Toyota Dealer in UK is asking for 770 GBP - approx 80,000 rupees - for supply and fit of Toyota air con kit. If I decide to have it installed in UK, will this increase the custom duty?
(3) I have been informed that if I send the vehicle in the next couple of weeks, ie it arrives at Karachi Dry port between June 16-30 2006, then duty to pay on the vehicle will be $7,600 - Car was first registered 16 June 2005, so will get 24% discount. Is this the maximum discount which I can get? Are there not any concessions for disabled people? Father told me he had enquired about any concessions but was told to qualify for any concession he had to be able to drive the car himself... and that is very unlikely considering he's been left paralysed on one side after suffering a severe stroke.
(4) If a few years down the line they decide to upgrade to a bigger car, will there be any kind of resale value for this vehicle?
(5) I am also thinking of bringing over furniture which they left behind in the UK. Stuff like leather sofa set, dining table and dinner sets/cuttlery. Will there be any duty on these items?
( 6 ) I am planning to go and clear the car and household belongings myself at Karachi dry port. Do you forsee any problems which I might encounter from customs staff in trying to clear the goods?
(7) I then need to get the car and furniture to Lahore. What options do I have? Can they be sent by rail? Can anyone provide me with contact details of transport companies who do this kind of carriage? Also I would need to get an insurance policy out to cover car and other belongings from Karachi to Lahore. Can anyone recommend any insurance agents dealing with this kind of cover? Please give contact details.
Any advise or comments regarding the above would be greatly appreciated. Please either reply on here or you can email me on Imranjchaudhary@hotmail.com. Thanking you in advance
Imran
