Hello everyone,
I've recently been gifted a Volkswagen Beetle 1963 Ragtop by my uncle, and after clearing a few hurdles, have decided to restore it. The car was first offered to my elder brother about 8 years ago when my uncle was liquidating his house (he's moved to the US), but there was some hesitation at home over accepting such a gift. From my uncle's garage, the car was moved to the KCCA stadium near People's Chowrangi, across from Sajid Motors. It stood there until recently, my dad told me that the car was still there when I told him I was thinking about buying an old car and chopping off the roof altogether. My first thought was "yay, free car to do with as I please," but after a few conversations, I realized what a heinous crime I would be committing. I am now bent on restoring this Beetle to its original state. My only deviations from the original will be, at most, a different paint color than the original (but hopefully period-authentic), wider tires (but whitewalled), better sound insulation, and at the most a 2 inch drop in height.
I don't know much about the beetle, and whatever I know now, from the torsion bar suspension to the boxer engine basics, probably isn't enough. I am especially clueless when it comes to dealing with mechanics. The few dent/paintjobs that I've seen have disappointed me thoroughly, so I've finally made my way onto this forum to get some advice from serious Beetlevolk, suggested a long time ago by this kid who went by the name "Lazeez," I think.
Some things I do know, however, are that almost no parts are missing on the car - everything to the knobs on the original radio. The paint is original, and the car has never seen an accident. My uncle was a fanatic. More details shall follow, I hope. I haven't been able to upload any pictures onto my computer yet, but you'll see them soon enough.
I would be extremely grateful for any help offered here.
