such high powered cars have automatic transmissions. Usually a GM TH400 - that transmission can take 500 lb/ft torque from 2000 rpm in original spec, with some working that number can go to 900 lb/ft easily.
Its a monster of a transmission. It also probably has a full locking diff that is splitting power equally to the insanely wide tyres, if you look - you can see that the driver really heated up the slicks before actually launching the car.
Aussies are weird tho, I know of one guy who has put a toyota 1GZ (with added turbo) into a mercedes W201 chassis.
toyota 1GZ = 5L V12, the only V12 toyota makes and use in their flagship toyota century sedan.
