I think it is a matter of preference. With the 4x4 vehicle you can drive within the city or take it to the rural areas. Where the road condition is bad, e.g. slippery surface, etc, you can always switch to 4x4 drive and get better road grip.
I mostly drive in the city area, but still have a 4x4 and feel it is best vehicle to drive. If I have to encounter a rough track, I don't have a problem, I engage the 4x4 H or L option and cruise by.
A 4x4 vehicle is more secure to drive and you won't be intimidated by heavy traffic, etc...Although I miss driving a car and high speeds, I am much content with my 4x4.
