That is a wrong interpretation of the SRO recently issued by the FBR and APMDA (All Pakistan Motor Dealers Association) is protesting by not clearing their cars from the port of Karachi. The SRO states that the depreciation will start from the date of manufacture and not from the date of registration. Date of manufacture is counted from the 1st of January of the year subsequent to the year of manufacture and that means fewer number of months will count towards depreciation if applied leading to higher amount of duty to be paid. The age of the vehicle allowed into Pakistan is still the same; 5 years. Our whole country is in turmoil and chaos. Government is hungry for cash because they are short of it. 2012 is the record year for the numbers of cars imported into Pakistan. That means they will get more money if the SRO is followed which has been implemented. Cut-off date for age will now be from the date the ship sails for Pakistan and not when it docks at ******* Karachi port as was previously, thereby reducing another month of depreciation, Good Lord! Clever isn't it? My foot. Take care. Any more questions are welcomed.
