Hi all,
It was great to read through the recent threads on Skardu/Fairy Meadows and others. Tremendously helpful. This forum has already provided more information than any travel website.
Me and my friends (total 5 people) are coming from Karachi for a 2-week visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, and we're planning to include Skardu, Deosai (if it is open), Fairy Meadows + Nanga Parbat BC and Khunjerab Pass in our tour. I wanted some advice for transport since we don't have our own cars. We're coming to Islamabad on Daewoo bus. Which of these options is best in terms of cost and in terms of enjoyment?
1) Public transport to Besham. Hire Jeep from Besham and keep it with ourselves throughout the tour.
2) Hire drop from Islamabad to Skardu on private car/minivan, rent Jeep from Skardu for all destinations.
3) Use NATCO for going to Skardu and hire Jeep from Skardu. I'm afraid we won't be able to enjoy the KKH if we take this option.
- Does anyone know around how much each of these would cost? I hear even cars are charging 30K for Isb-Skardu this year.
- Would a Jeep from Besham be too uncomfortable? Too costly?
- Also, what if we hire a land cruiser? Can it go to Raikot Bridge and Deosai? Khunjerab Pass?
Thank you all for taking out the time to read this!
