What actually happened: Last night, i was coming back home from pindi. At around 1.20 am, Just a km away from my place, i felt a bump when i was passing KRL hospital G9. I travel this road almost everyday, so i know where the bumps are and there shoudn't be any where i hit it.
I was curious, so i turned my car back to see what hit the tyre. While i was turning back, the car felt heavy already and as i moved couple of yards i could feel something wrong with rear tyre. I came down and saw it was totally flat. I inspected the tyre and turned out that a slightly bent 4" steel nail punctured my rear tyre.
I decided to change the tyre with the spare but when i opened the trunk i couldn't find the lug wrench (PAANA). Which i later realized that i had removed it when i took the car for wash and forgot to put back it in car. I know that is the biggest mistake which has costed me a tyre...
The G-9 petrol pump is not far from KRL hospital and the road is smooth so i decided instead of going home with flat tyre and the alloy rim bumping on rough road i decided to move for the pump slowly. Sadly the tyre shop was closed because of eid holidays, i waited some time there and i asked a total of three cars but sadly enough none of their lug wrench would fit. I had my family with me and running out of options i went slowly for my home and finally when i reached i changed the tyre. I still Thank Allah it could have been worse then what has happened last night and realized my mistake for not checking the tools of my car.
The damage: The nail was bent at around 30 degrees angle, It entered the tyre at the point where treads are just about to end. In my experience, this hole had a chance of getting fixed but the problem is that the tyre almost instantly got flat and obviously the car kept moving for a while before coming to rest. So the bent part of the nail made another hole to the inner sidewall of tyre, just above the rim.
As far as i know, this cannot be fixed. The tyre was almost 1.5 year old, and driven on isb-pindi only that too hardly 7000km.
The tyre was in great condition and it could certainly be used for quite some time. So now i ask fellow PW members regarding what to do...
I can get a tube fitted inside and use it as spare but the problem is that the spare i already have is much older then these tyres and cannot by used as a primary tyre.
What do you think? can this sort of damage be fixed or do i have to buy a new tyre...
