My question is pretty straight forward, a lil background first, my car has a 50L fuel tank in which 8L is reserve so that means (42L+8L = 50L).
Now coming towards my question, is the fuel reserve/low light on the instrument cluster an accurate representation of the fuel remaining in the tank? Like when it lits, it means 8L is left in the tank or its just an estimated (incorrect) indicator?
I am asking cause yesterday my fuel reserve light lit up and since then I drove around 100KM's before getting my car refueled (the indicator nib on odo was at E, not below or well below it). I got my tank full and only around 45L went in and my tank was full again. If I do some rough maths, that tells me reserve light lit up very early (around 37-38L+- mark) hence my initial question. Oh and this hasn't happened for the first time, it has always been like that, initially I got it refueled as soon as the reserve light lit (and back then roughly 40L+- used to go in and tank full again).
