A plan was hatched. Reports collected and a few captains known at keemari were consulted. Everyone said the same thing. The sea will be very rough but 3 brave foolish men, we determined to give it a shot. They headed out to sea from keemari @0300 hrs . Just as they crossed break waters it was eminent what was in store. They kept each others spirits up, sharing stories (but they made sure all those were buried out at sea) telling jokes. Brave foolish men I tell you.
They started with their trolling at first light. They were humbled by the vastness of nature and the power of the sea.
They had winds of around 15-16 knots crashing against them, huge wave swells. The journey was dangerous. But nature had something in store for them. @0830 hours one of the reels began screeching. CCCCHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR it went. The three jumped into action. The thing on the other end was really powerful. They kept reeling, pumping and reeling and as soon as it would seem like the battle was won..chhhhhrrrrrrr another run. All three had the chance to fight the marvel of nature. Finally one of them, sensed it giving up. The first of the Almighty bounties had opened up. It was gaffed up. Lo behold, there it was. Excitement and jubilation. Even the captain of the ship smiled, hi-fying the brave souls.
What landed on the boat was a majestic powerful 14-15 kg Mackerel. And it was beautiful. The colors of its skin. People have caught larger and bigger Macks, but they would also know the happiness of hooking and landing your first big Mack. The feeling well one had to be there to feel it. The power and grace of its fight was humbling coupled with a feeling of accomplishment. The brave were happy. They set back their rods for trolling, while reflecting upon the catch.
One after the other between 0900 hours and 1200 hrs, every now and then the braves would find a reel screeching. Fight after fight, hook after hook, luckily they dint loose any fish hooked this time. BY 1230 hrs the sea went calm as if telling the boys the challenge is over. The total days catch or nature's bounty
Mackerel one 15kgs and 4 more between 6-8 Kgs
White barracuda 1, 5-6kgs
Black barracuda 2, 3-4kgs (juvis but badly hooked)
The braves thank The Almighty for a safe and bountiful trip, they are humbled and much honored. They thank the seniors who instilled this bug in them, taught them whatever little bit they know. They would like to thank Captain Abbas for agreeing to take em out in such weather and be a sport and support and for all the guidance he gave to them. And the people who told the brave, it would be foolish to go out in such weather. And the people who backed off at the last moment.
And coming back every sore back, every aching joint, every minor cut and bruise was worth it. The fish was tasty, filling and the sleep. The braves packed their gear and slept like warriors having returned from a battle successful. This may not have been the biggest catch ever, but it was their first. By the grace of God more to come. For now we hope you enjoy the report as much as we enjoyed making it happen. Screeching reels and tight lines. Till the next time, its over and out.
Owais holding the trophy.....Look at the size, its huge...Isn't it?
