future, I compared the SAME Sonatas in Canada and Pakistan. Read my response to smartkhan for another case of IDENTICAL cars. This time BMW.
I will repeat - the problem is local manufacturers. Importers like Dewan are very honest with their prices. Go to any of their dealerships- Hyundai, Mitsubishi, BMW and you'll see what I mean.
smartkhan, Now for your sake, lets compare the SAME new BMW 730i 2,996cc in Pakistan and UK. The SAME car. The SAME price:
BMW Pakistan: 6,700,000PKR
BMW UK : 53,000GBP=6,500,000PKR.
No one is cheating Pakistanis except Pakistanis themselves through the resale market. Dont compare the resale market of Pakistan and the UK. It just shows the absurdity of Pakistani people. Instead of blaming themselves for creating a demand and inflating the residual value of shitty cars they will blame the government.
The point of the matter is you can buy a 2002 3 Series in the UK for 5lakh because a 3 Series means nothing in the UK. My house cleaner used to drive around in a BMW. Dont let the used car market be the basis to bash the auto sector in Pakistan. And please dont go far enough to blame the government like other members.
The used car market in Pakistan is artificial. There is nothing holding it down to any real numbers.
The real issue is new cars. NOT used cars. Look at the price manufacturers and dealers are willing to offer you a new car. Time and time again I have proven new cars in Pakistan are highly competitive. Only resale is insane, and it's the fault of ordinary Pakistanis.
